The Lippmanns: A Nail Polish Review

By Griff

For months now I have promised my sweet friend, Annie, that I would review Lippman polishes. I am ready to make good on that promise.
I have quite a few Lippman's, from vampies (Dark Side of the Moon, Walk Away Renee, Hit Me w/ Your Best Shot), to delicate little whispers (Diamonds and Pearls), some brights (Daytripper), and some in-betweens. I love them all, and find them worth the money for two reasons: beautiful colors, and decent staying power. Even the dark vampies are "pretty", if that makes sense. Nothing garish or scary about them. The polishes go on easily, and are always a little deeper, a little richer, a little something more than similar colors on the market.
I am lazy. I will never do more than slap on two coats of nail polish. No top coat, no base coat, no ridge filler, etc. Just slap on two coats of polish and go. Despite this cavalier attitude, I find that a Lippman manicure lasts a good work week, and yes, I do dishes. I occasionally touch up with another coat after about three days. Not bad.
Brava Lippman.

I have several Lippmans and they are decent. Pretty colors, the brush could be better. However, both their base coat and especially their clear top coat are horrible, in my opinion. The base and ridgefiller don't do the job as well as other brands, and the top coat is thin, takes ages to dry and doesn't coat evenly.

The colors are just beautiful! I usually just use cheap (you know, wet & wild) polish as I never paint my fingernails, only my toes. But it's good to get info on the good stuff (should I ever decide to give myself a proper mani).

Gaia: Good to know.
I use Essie's Ridgefiller as a base coat and I can not rave enough. It is magnificent.

Koneko: Our Griffie did good!!!!
She needs to write more reviews!!!

Tessaj: I love high and low end.
My top pick for quality and colors is Essie. They last very well on my skin. I also do well with OPI, Revlon,Creative and Zoya. The worst is MAC.
I have never tried a Lippman.

Anon(MG): I have no clue. I need to work on getting you on answer on that.
