On tuesday the new White Stripes album will be released. It is called "Get Behind Me Satan". The standout songs for me so far are Red Rain and Instinct Blues. These will be amazing live. This CD will not be one of my favorites. I can not put my finger on it. It seems so clean and produced. I love the twangs and rawness of previous work. I feel like they did not even perform together with this album. It feels pieced together. I might be WAY off base so I look forward to dishing this with Mary and others. Let me know what you think.........

You already have it? Wow. I'm sorry to hear the production is so polished. I really liked the raw garage sound of two broke rock and roll kids making a whole mess of noise in a shed. (Maybe it's like Jack said: sitting in your little room / working on something good / but if it's really good / you're gonna need a bigger room / once you're in your bigger room / you might not know what to do / you might have to think of how you got started / sitting in your little room.) I remember that one of the great things Nirvana did was that after Nevermind, which had a real studio sheen, they worked with Steve Albini to come up with a second album that sounded even rawer and rougher than the first. I'll gladly listen to Get Behind Me Satan, though, and give it a chance. At least the title is great.
Hey, Annie: I couldn't love the Shins either. (Sorry, Jonna.)
J:You drive a hard bargain Miss Jonna! I will promise to have an open mind when it comes to the shins...I have not forgotten my promise to burn White Stripes CDS for you. I will work on this soon.
T: You nailed it. Too polished and no garage noise. I have always loved the twang of the White Stripes. All their CDS sound like they are in a bar playing their hearts out. This CD you feel like they are not in the same room and everything is done in layers. Like music lasagna. By no means is it awful or not worthy of a purchase....its different and I am sad. I have high hopes for all these songs when I see them live. I know I will like them much better.
I have ALWAYS preferred In Utero to Nevermind. Do not get me wrong... I was a fan in the beginning but it was In Utero that blew me away. That album was magnificent. I was lucky to see Nirvana perform on halloween night in Akron. A few months later he passed. I am so grateful to have had that experience. It is still one of the best live shows I have ever seen.
Hi best friend, that doesn't sound promising! They had a good thing going, why change it up?
You saw Nirvana perform? Oooh, so jealous. I never got to see them live.
Best friend: I am guessing he wanted a new direction. I personally feel like these new songs will improve once I hear them live. Right now I am just not digging them. I do not see this album doing as well as the last two. I might be wrong......
Tbone: Nirvana was fantasic. Kurt dressed up as Barney and Kris was Slash from Guns and Roses. I saw them in Akron Ohio...a block away from my house. I actually walked to the concert. I miss my college Akron days......
