Cleveland MUA shopping event:
This last saturday I met up with some Cleveland Ohio MUA members. Makeupalley is a website that features different chat boards that focus on makeup, fashion and perfume. I hang out on the fragrance board and my handle is....annieytown.

Cavewoman and I had a great time. My favorite moment was when everyone pulled out all the lipsticks and glosses they carried in their handbag. The average was four to five products. Spacepants and I both had Nars Foul Play in our purse. This is a great pinkish nude gloss. I think we silently bonded over that.

We started off at the Nars counter and made our way around the store. I usually can not resist new Nars products but I stayed strong. I passed on the new colors. Nars Gothika is a great gloss. A reddish brown with a little copperish shimmer. This gloss would look amazing on a redhead.
I caved on two MAC lipsticks but managed to resist the charms of new shadows. The lipsticks were Birds of a Feather and Deliciously Rich.

We met the new rep for the Bond line at SAKS. The counter has been unmanned for months. In one week Cleveland will understand the power of the scent called Chinatown. Chinatown is my favorite from the entire Bond line. My supply is very limited since I went through my bottle like water. I reach for this fragrance too often.

At Sephora I was able to test two new fragrances. The first being the new scent by Lulu Guinness called Cast a Spell. The fragrance notes are Dark Berries, Frosted Blackberry Pulp, Mulberry, Red Currant, Iced Lavender, Lilac Petals, Davana Blossoms, Black Velvet Fig, Amber, Bourbon, White Patchouli. It was good during the 1st second of the spritz, settled down into an escada-like fragrance and then ended with vanilla woods. The notes appeared promising but the scent failed to deliver. The bottle is beyond adorable and worth lemming. I want the bottle but not the juice.
The second fragrance I tested was the new Kenzo. It is an oriental scent with a black rose on the bottle. This was very promising on the first spritz and minutes into the drydown. If you love Cartier's Le Baiser du Dragon you might fall hard for this one. There is a powdery vibe in the drydown but it is not overpowering.

Patti tested the new Stacked style fragrances. Rococo Rouge's notes are Orange, Citron, Melon, Jasmine, Cocoa, Violet, Rose, Marigold, Coriander, Musk. The Baroque Bleu scent has notes of Green Grass, Almond, Rhubarb, Rose, Tahitian Gardenia, Tuberose, Muguet, Coconut, Neroli, Tonka Bean, Amber, Precious Woods, Musk. I thought the Baroque was interesting. I did not try it on my skin but it smelled wonderful on the card. It is worth a second sniff.

It was a lovely time and I hope to do another Ohio MUA event soon.

Hey Annie! I'm looking for a sheer neutral red gloss that lasts and I'm clueless about makeup. Give me a suggestion? Thank you, Darlink. I can't wait to see more of you as a Sicillian jewel thief in Tania's novel! :-)

Fun! I am on a no-more-makeup commitment, strictly enforced, except for Chanel lipsticks. Speaking of which, I am going to go test some more right now.

Mwah! Thanks for the report.

Kate, if you don't mind my butting in: how neutral? The Paula Dorf gloss in Blaze is awfully nice, but it does lean towards the warm side of red. My fave red gloss is Lola's Enchantress. It's more of a browned berry red than a straight-on red, though.

Annie - oh that sounds so great! How fun... and of course you silently bonded over the gloss. How could you not mutually respect each others good taste? That's a shame about the new Lulu G, but your experience of it mostly sums up my feelings about the first one, too - just doesn't quite deliver. I do love that bottle though, very cute indeed.

Kate: Have you tried Nars Scandal?

Diane dear, I have gloves like that! and I plan to wear glove religiously this winter because I catch too damn many colds in this town. I think that with new, frightening viruses circulating, year-round gloves are overdue for a comeback. My grandmother never went downtown without her gloves ... why, cities are DIRTY, you know! LOL!

Annie, this sounds like a wonderful time and I want to shop with you & Patti so bad I can taste it! and don't think I didn't make a small note: "NARS Gothika" in my "check it out" list. :)

Mel: You have to meet Parisjasmal soon! There are so many cool chicago based muaers.
Patti and I really need to start traveling the country in a RV with a perfume bar in the back. We can visit towns and bring samples.

Kate: Fresh's Satine.
It is a very sheer raspberry. I have gone through 3 tubes. A great subtle red berry wash. I want to say Parisjasmal was the gal that started the craze.

2nd Tbones Nars suggestion. Nars glosses are the best. They have great pigment, have great staying power and feel so comfortable on. There is no sticky mess.
