My first thought was how much I love Sofia's taste in music. It is such an interesting choice to use for the trailer. Then I noticed that the rest of the movie looks like she just filmed Kristen Dunst running.
I had such high hopes for this film.

I love Sofia's taste in music too -- that's such a great song -- but the trailer didn't change my original thought, which was that casting Kristen Dunst as European royalty is insanity. She looked very pretty in the trailer, but like a cheerleader playing dress-up. And not a hint of a revolution there, either. Either Sofia is ending her movie before Kristen has to go to prison and wear drab outfits or they haven't edited that part yet, I guess.
Kirsten Drunkst?!?!?!
Say it ain't so...
This will forever be a black mark against Sofia in my book.
I never got the Kirsten Dunst thing, but I know America and blonde, anglo girls.
I don't see her as being miscast for an Austrian princess. She certainly LOOKS that part.
Don't know much about her acting ability I'm afraid. I must say, however, the pink outfit in an earlier post simply cried out for a chihuahua and a rhinestone necklace that said something along the lines of..."Bling"
Geezus, could Sofia been high when she cast that no-talent Kirsten Dumst as Marie Antoinette!
Blond hair and pasty white skin does not a 'Marie Antoinette' make!
Boo to you Sofia!
Kudos though for the kick ass music, beautiful costumes, and gorgeous cinematography! :)
Oh no, not Dunst! why why why on earth? arrgh
F: I am guessing that this trailer was a very rough first draft. I never even spotted Marianne in it.
Well...you know that I never agreed with her casting but I just loved the idea of Sofia choosing Faithful as the queen.
I assumed that the costumes would be amazing. I think that is the most shocking part!!!
(Sofia interned at Chanel so I expect better things than the hot pink L Woods gown!)
K: Yep.
I will withold judgment against S until the movie. It could still surprise me.
M: She might look the part with the right makeup or gowns...but that did not seem to happen.
Maybe the costumes will be better than what I have seen so far.
Jane Austen: I will agree on the music only.
I truly enjoyed that trailer.
I wonder if she will use alt music for the entire movie! That would be interesting!
J: Happy Belated Bday J! How are you handling it? I hated that Bday!
M: 2nd what M said.

I think the costumes are very Vivienne Westwood & wern't meant to be completely classical. Hence there is a New Order song on the trailer. The script or lettering at the intro suggests a very Sciorsese influence.
Eh, I dunno. I am more the sort to question the imaginary physics involved. Like, all those undergarmets, constricting and PAINFUL, I very much doubt those ladies jogged at all, let alone down a long ass hallway. I try to avoid Kirsten Dunst (and Claire Danes, too) when I can, so I'll have to see something more interesting that this trailer to find any appeal. Also, because I am weird, everytime I see Kirsten Dunst I am convinced that if I just study her long enough I will see her vampire teeth that I am just sure she is artfully hiding behind fancy dental veneers.
Hmm, I think it could still be great. Lux Lisbon as Marie Antoinette? Am I the only one who thinks it's perfect?
Tania: Nope. Joy Division agrees with you.
I am willing to give it a chance, as sometimes when a director knows how to get the best out of an actor, amazing and unexpected things can happen. My initial reaction was that it might be better to put names in supporting roles and make the lead an unknown...a very talented young stage actress to introduce to the world, etc, or someone from the UK etc that we just don't know about on this side of the pond.
As far as the costuming, few historical films are accurate to the letter and more so stand to evoke a feeling of the time versus reproducing it, so am not surprised by costuming choices. We shall see...
Hi vintagegent:
I agree but I was surprised by how cheap the costumes looked. She could have used Sandy Powell to develop the costumes. The movie Orlando has spoiled me.
I have only seen a handful of pictures so maybe there will be some gems in the movie. I will also wait and see.
Hi E!
New Order's Age of Consent.
HTH
Considering the trailer's theme song is from their album is called Power and Corruption, I think the choice of music is brilliant.
I've seen two different trailers for this movie, one with just the New Order song, but the second trailer had New Order in the beginning and what seemed like a different song toward the end. Am I wrong? does anyone know what this second song is?
hmm.. actually, i just went back and watched the second version again, and realized the first song is not New Order, so I suppose my question now is this: what are the two songs in this other trailer? particularly the last one..
The music in the other, more traditional trailor with spoken word is a song called Natural's Not In It by Gang of Four, a late 70's/early 80's British Punk band.
Actually, the song is called Ceremony by New Order
No, The Strokes Whatever Happened
the soundtrack alone for this movie is fantastic. I can't wait for the movie.
I'm looking for one particular song though:
in the newest trailer that's on the tele... it's not the new order songs and it's not the gang of four song... the lyrics are "and I don't want to be forgotten and I don't want to be reminded" it sort of sounds like the strokes but I can't put my finger on it.
anyone wanna help me out?
thanks.
did anyone ever figure out the song with the lyrics e lyrics are "and I don't want to be forgotten and I don't want to be reminded" i am looking for it
The song your looking for is the Strokes song "whatever happened". it definetly is because i just checked the lyrics of it and thats it. i was looking for it too.
