Patti, I saw an interview with Stewart Granger once, where he talked about joining Frank & Ava before one of Sinatra's shows. She was throwing things and carrying on, yelling at the top of her lungs that Sinatra couldn't even [expletive] sing, and Sinatra was yelling right back at her. Next thing you know, Granger & Gardner are sitting stageside, Sinatra is singing "The Way You Look Tonight" directly to Ava and tears are streaming down Ava's face as she clutches Granger's hand and says, "isn't he WONDERFUL?"
Couldn't live with or without each other, I guess. I love this picture, candid shots capture Gardner's allure even better than posed ones.
