The Spring Haute Couture collections were unveiled today in Paris. I blew past all the other photos on style.com and getty to find the one collection that I could not wait to see.
It is always Galliano.
The clothes and the show is always a visual feast for the eyes.
Today the show told a story.
What that story was...only he knows.
Lets just say that there were religious like figures in cardinal robes and mouthwatering gowns. They wore crude crucifixes in black and white. There were 3 to 4 models who then appeared in some of the best leather pieces Galliano has ever done. Museum quality work. There is no other way to describe it.
Next came the models splattered with blood. Some of the splatters looked like a high gloss paint. Others were delicate embroidered beads that looked like little rubies. The models had platinum wigs, bloody pearl chokers and white makeup with what appeared to be MAC's lovely lily pigment smudged around the eye. Galliano is still playing with creating pieces that look under construction. This time he fooled around with the corset hardware.
It is reported on style.com that he visited the corset factory that Marie Antoinette used. I love how he exaggerated and deconstructed the corsets. For some reason I really enjoy watching him work through these conceptual pieces. He is like a mad scientist trying to figure out how a dress works.
It was his most chaos filled collection yet. It was slightly disturbing and might have been a great political statement. It also could be he is simply excited to see the Sofia's movie on Marie Antoinette.
Regardless he hooked me in.
Now I want a corset and to wear a red ribbon around my neck.
*I will post more pictures of the show along with photographs from Chanel,Valentino and Christian Lacroix's Haute Couture collections. Lets just say if this was Project Runway....Valentino(Emmett) would have been thrown off after this challenge.

All those crosses, the "blood," and models dressed like vampiric cardinals... I'd wager a guess that it's Galliano trying to tell his own weird little story about the battles waged between the Huguenots and the Catholics in France.

I went nuts when I saw Pirate Galliano. I hope tbone gets her computer fixed so she can see it. Pirates are the new navy blue.
