Tonight was not the best night for fashion at the Oscars. Many stars looked awkward and in misery. Charlize Theron who normally shines on the red carpet looked worn out and uncomfortable. Her hair and makeup aged her way beyond her years. The dress was wearing her instead of her working the dress. She normally wears Christian Dior so well.
Vera Wang was the big winner at the Oscars this year. Two of the best dressed ladies were in Wang gowns. The first was Kiera Knightly. She wore a gorgeous wine gown that was fitted to her frame. It created curves where there were none. Kiera chose the best jewels of the night by Asprey. The jewels were perfectly chosen and flattered the dress. She looked so amazing that I am sure the buzz will help her career.
The next Wang girl was Michelle Williams. It was delicate gown in a bold color. The neckline was so flattering on her. I was not crazy with her choice of jewels but I thought this was the best she has ever looked. Who knew that she would be the break out star of Dawson's Creek?
Nicole Kidman wore Balenciaga that did not look like a Balenciaga. Her jewels were from Fred Leighton. I loved her clutch. The dress was very bridal but then she might have weddings on her mind.
Uma Thurman wore a very awful Versace. The other Versace gowns on the red carpet were Hilary Swank(looked very familiar on her) and Jessica Alba. I am on the fence on Alba's gown. It looked like a throwback to the glamorous starlet years...but cheaper.
Rachel Weisz played it safe and simple in a Narcisco Rodriguez gown. I think she needed a necklace. I thought the dress flattered her shape and the makeup was lovely.
Amy Adams should shun Carolina Herrera from this day forward. At first it looked lovely and flattering. Then I noticed that strange piece of black fabric on the chest. Did the dress fit or was that piece added in a state of emergency? Carolina only has eyes for Renee.
Ziyi Zhang wore Armani again. This time it was a trainwreck.
Jada Pinkett Smith looked stunning in Roberto Cavalli. Everything was perfection. I had forgotten how well she does in the red carpet. It was great to see her back.
Felicity Huffman in Zac Posen. It was pretty good except for some fit issues.
Sandra Bullock in Angel Sanchez. She does not get enough credit when it comes to her fashion choices. She does try. She really does.
This is a brief recap for now. I will add more thoughts on Monday.
Have a great night! Sleep tight!

You know, it looks like they told all of the presenters and other stars to only wear neutrals, and the same person made up every one of them with those wan nude lips and "no make up" eyes. Frankly it looks great on a grown up woman like Meryl Streep, but awful on lots of the youger ones..........two of the presenters wore black strapless with NO JEWELRY. There's Reese W backstage answering questions, and she must have applied her normal rosey lipstick quickly before the questions! I live in Hollywood, and I think there could easily be a very big effort to have Hollywood look "serious" as the normal part of the country may think that we are too loose and liberal. I understand, but hate to think that it is necessary to make women not have fun with their stuff! The only women in color were a few producers and wives.
Wow, we have quite a similar roundup!
Thanks, Annie, as usual your perfect eye has spotted all the best (and the not so best!) and I mostly agree with your thoughts!
I thought Kidman was stellar, perhaps the best of the evening for the ladies.
I actually loved Theron's look, the hair and the dress, so perfectly recognizable as the true Dior look. The man knew how to make a bow like no one else ever has. I loved that color on her, too.
Salma Hayek was breathtaking.
BTW, our buddy Tim Gunn pronounced that Kidman was his choice for best-dressed woman.
