40 days and 40 Nights of Primers

Primer #11 comes from makeup artist Carol Shaw, who reversed the letters of her first name to come up with the name of her line, Lorac. Her oil-free foundation has gotten rave reviews over the years, and so I thought I'd take a look at what she had to offer in terms of primers and other products she's designed to be used under her foundation.

Lorac Oil Free Neutralizer is the strangest looking shade of primer I've discovered so far. It is supposed to neutralize redness. As a former art teacher, I do know the theories of color, and color opposites, so I see where she's coming from with this green-to-yellow product.

In theory, it works. In practice, it is just too weird. It's almost impossible to apply this product evenly. It streaks. Badly. If you apply with your fingers, you'll see your fingerprints on your face. If you apply with a brush, you'll see brush streaks. A sponge absorbs so much product that you'll waste more than you'll apply. Foundation over top pulls the primer around and adds to the uneven application. I wonder if a personal lesson from Shaw would help. I do see that it could be possible that this shade of primer would work well for people who have need to tone down redness, but I am not excited about the formula itself.

Good idea, bad execution, primer rating 3.
