Whats your sign?

This is my personal favorite from cavewoman's collection. It is the Erte Zodiac compact. Each refillable compact boasts one of the 12 Zodiac signs and comes filled with Lucidity Transparent Pressed Powder.

You can purchase these gems on Ebay or your local CCO.

Then it is time for a trip to Grove city...cause they have them all!

They have the pony compact...and I covet that one badly.

Wow, this one is even more gorgeous than the one before. I quite sure now that I love everything else in Cavewoman's collection.

Oh, boy - I never thought I would fall in love with a COMPACT! I did NOT know that these were out there - what could be better than an Erte' design? How very elegant!

The deliciously witty art deco artist/illustrator Erte was born in Russia in 1892. His name was Romain de Tirtoff and he used his initials to create his nickname Erte (R&T). He was famous for his clever drawings, including calendars, the alphabet, the seven deadly sins, and other themes, but he really attained his most fame from his Harper's Bazaar covers. He also did theater costumes and set design. His circle of friends included Mata Hari, William Randolph Hearst, Louis B. Mayer, Joan Crawford, Claudette Colbert, Elsa Schiaparelli, Cecil Beaton, Diaghilev, Billy Rose, and Barbra Streisand! Although he was Russian-born, he lived in France most of his life. He died in 1990.
I'm not sure at what point in his life he created the Zodiac art. I bought an Erte scarf for my Mom about fifteen years ago, from Neiman Marcus, with the letter L illustration from his alphabet series. It's scandalous! It shows boobies! My 86 year old mother gets a kick out of wearing it. She's very modern!
I applaud the Lauder company for offering these delightful compacts!

Mel, what's your sign?

Annie, I have a feeling all of our friends will want us to run to Grove City to pick these up for them!

Mireille, yes, this is a Cancer compact. Isn't it adorable!

Carla, there are many more Lauders to come!

Flora, once you start collecting compacts, it is impossible to stop!

Annie, I'm so excited to see the rest of my collection here on the blog!

Gorgeous. Y'all must have read my mind with this compact series ... just as I was discovering EL I began to investigate the wild wooly and unbelievably pricey world of their compacts and voila! you started to write about the compacts.

Me, I might settle for a compact

That is just beautiful. I've been thinking of a new compact...hmmmm....

Melanie: No CP. I am going to force my hand in getting you to visit. I will use any devious underhanded method to get you to Ohio.

Tess: You need this compact. I will encourage this caving.
Imagine whipping this compact out to do touch ups! It is so lovely and will make putting on gloss a more lux experience.
Have I sold you yet?

lily: Wow! I might have to settle for a compact! LOL

Anon: You have not missed the wrap up. It is late.
I need to get on that!

tbone: What have you spotted so far?

Cait: This will just be the tip of the iceberg. There are over 800 EL compacts/solid perfumes. It would be a great item to collect. If you have a local CCO it is worth a visit. They have a great collection.

Carla: I need to charm cavewoman into showing her perfume collection. Now that would result in chaos. I have only seen a small part but....it is legendary.

Flora: Do you have a CCO near you?

M: It is!

Annieytown,

I don't know what a CCO is! Am I woefully out of the loop? :-(

Yes, what is a CCO?? And this compact is lovely! I've never really been one to take notice of compacts, but you have a wonderful collection. I think I might have to start investing in some of my own!

Mel, I think MAC dropped the ball on the Deneuve harlequin compact. This should have been done in a seriously heavy metal case. With enamel. It would have been stunning instead of the light, throw-away, cheap-feeling thing that it is.
