On Saturday we attended the Nars event at our local SAKS store in Cleveland. It was attended by Nars International Makeup Director, Ayako. She was accompanied by a Nars team who helped create some dazzling makeup looks.

The way the event worked was you were introduced to your makeup artist. My MA was named Julio. He is a Nars trainer. He took off all makeup and created a canvas for Ayako. After he finished with my foundation he took me to Ayako to get a personal consultation with her. This is when she would recommend looks and products to you.

My Makeover:

Julio started with the basics of Nars skincare. He used this fabulous brightening serum that looked and felt wonderful. It was a rich cream that looked like MAC's pink opal pigment. It really transformed my face from a tired sallow look to something more youthful. I appeared well rested and stress free. This is a miracle product.

He then started to stress the importance of primers.
I smiled wickedly.
We know all about primers at Blogdorf Goodman.

He used Nars foundation in Fiji and the Custard concealer. I thought that was going to be too dark but he assured me that it was the correct match.
He was 100% correct.
I was startled by how natural it looked.

He then marched me over to Ayako. She was very gracious and lovely.
She noticed my nails first.
She pointed and said Black Satin.
I said yes.
We then began to talk about how Chanel had already sold out its new black polish. It was fun to dish with someone that is responsible for more than half of my makeup collection. I am a huge fan of Nars so it was exciting to meet her.
She is a rock star in the makeup world.
She is John Lennon to Francois Nars's Paul McCartney.

She suggested that I do a smoky eye with a light lippie. I was thrilled because I am all about a smoky eye. It was what I was secretly wishing for.
She also suggested another look that involved a wine stained lip with a wine eye. She suggested the Velvet Matte lip pencil called Damned.
I am sure I blinked at the wine suggestion.
That is something I would have never thought of. Julio also suggested Hindu(a fig color) along with Captiva(a lovely currant color).
I plan to explore this look later.

Julio took control after the consultation. He used Lili Marlene and Night Flight to create my smoky eye.

He dabbed the Lili Marlene all over my lid and used the Night Flight shadow in the crease and as a liner. He managed to transform my lashes into something lush and full within moments. He used no curler. I tried to pinpoint on how he did this. It was all in the wrist action. With one jiggle and swish he made my lashes look lovely.
On my cheeks he used Sertao. I would have never tried this one. It is a tawny gold shade.
I tend to reach for pink and peach shades of blush.
He used Bettina Velvet Matte Lip pencil(pinky beige) and Stolen Kisses gloss(a sparkling caramel pink) for my lips.

The Gang:

Shawn was Cavewoman's makeup artist. This was his last day at Saks. He is moving to NYC to work with Laurice at Bond fragrances. We are sad to see him leave yet proud that he is going to be part of Laurice's team. We know that he will take NYC by storm and be successful in everything. He is special and we adore him.
Another person we adore was honored that day. Alesha was awarded with the title of Counter Manager of the Year for the Midwest. Alesha is fabulous. She does amazing numbers and knows her product. The fact that the Nars team along with Ayako chose the Cleveland store to do this event is a huge deal.
This is a testimony to how wonderful and important Alesha is.

My entire gang had makeovers on Saturday.
Griffie got a modern take on the Edie Sedgwick eye. She was ready to dazzle at a holiday party.
Koneko got a smoky eye with a handful of the night shades. She looked like a goddess.
Tussah got a gorgeous green eye look. It was amazing. She also got one of the cutest makeup artists there. He was a fragrance fiend. They discussed Serge Lutens and Frederic Malle.
My MA just did dances so I was jealous.

Patti got the best makeover of the day. Our Shawn created a dramatic dark eye look on her. As he was finishing her eyes...Ayako stopped one of her consultations to rave over cavewoman's makeup. This was a huge honor for Shawn and Patti.

It was a great day with good friends and lovely makeup.
I wish every Saturday was like this.

Thanks for the wonderful review of our fab Saks day! Ayako was lovely and approachable and involved in every detail of our makeovers, totally down-to-earth and wanting our makeovers to fit our lifestyles. I loved that she wanted practical looks for daytime and glam looks for special occasions. I am so happy that Shawn impressed her with my smokey eye look! And I can't wait to see him again when we visit Laurice at the Bond Store!
And huge congratulations to our dear Alesha! To achieve such stature, in a Saks store that is one of their smallest, is nothing short of amazing. It was wonderful to be there and be a part of this most important day for Alesha!

P: It was a great day.
I miss S already!

Tussah: You looked amazing.
"A" really nailed each of us. No wonder she is a 2nd to Mr Nars. She is so talented.

Mary: Very camera shy.
I apologize for the tease...but there is no way I will post pictures. I have seen too many friends trashed in the past on MUA.

Anon: See above.

Melvis: I only took a handful of shots with us in them. I guess I should have focused on us more and less of the photos of our haul.

That was a perfect review of our lovely Saturday at Saks! We always have such a wonderful time, huh? ;-) Alesha did an AMAZING job, and so happy she got recognition for her hard work!

I was in awe when I met Ayako. I think she knew it too, LOL. My eyes were big as saucers, but she was attentive and gracious. I loved the looks she put together for all of us, and it was so neat how some of the items we had were similar, but were used so differently!

I can't wait to see you all again!! many hugs!

I can't believe I'm wishing I was in Ohio! I spent five years of my life trying to get OUT of Ohio ... but it sure wasn't as much fun as you guys are having. And the makeup! The unusual choices! The expert application! *jealous* May I be an honorary Ohioan? xoxo

I totally understand your reason, but it's a shame that it has to be that way. I will say that whoever you shot from behind several times has lovely hair. Also, is that big box with the brush a loose powder? I am intrigued..
