John Galliano Fall 2007 RTW

Sarah Mower: We were in Pigalle during the tens and twenties—the world of Kiki de Montparnasse and Brassai's Madame Bijou. (style.com)

From Cathy Horyn: The show put you in an idiotically good mood, and you left with the sound of “La Vie en Rose” in your head and wondering what Coco and the girls would be up to tomorrow. (NYTimes)

Hold me close and hold me fast
The magic spell you cast
This is la vie en rose
When you kiss me, Heaven sighs
And though I close my eyes
I see la vie en rose
When you press me to your heart
I'm in a world apart
A world where roses bloom
And when you speak
Angels sing from above
Every day words
Seem to turn into love songs
Give your heart and soul to me
And life will always be La vie en rose (Mack David/Edith Piaf)

"We just had fun," said Galliano, his mud-splattered, country squire rubber boots just missing Kylie Minogue's toes in the front row. "It's what fashion should be about!" (International Herald Tribune/Suzy Menkes)

Tu me l'as dit, l'as juré, pour la vie (Edith Piaf)

The poet Max Jacob said he came to Montparnasse to "sin disgracefully", but Marc Chagall summed it up more elegantly when he explained why he had gone to Montparnasse: "I aspired to see with my own eyes what I had heard of from so far away: this revolution of the eye, this rotation of colours, which spontaneously and astutely merge with one another in a flow of conceived lines. That could not be seen in my town. The sun of Art then shone only on Paris." (Wikipedia)

Oh, this is fabulous. Just rocks. No wonder you are obsessing over that red coat. I think I am obsessing too, now.

I am loving that red coat!
Brassai's Madame Bijou! (Yes!)

And Kiki is my muse!
We even share the same birthday.

That red coat is amazing and worth coveting. Now something like that needs to be tinkered with and copied for the masses.

Galliano was magnificent this season. Did you see that he is finally working on a fragrance? I spotted the scoop on Now Smell This.
