It was my #1 destination during this last NYC trip. I have always been intrigued with Christopher Brosius's concept and the descriptions of the fragrances.
The shop is spacious yet inviting. The staff left us to our own devices and we were able to play among the perfumes and accords. Baby Doll Head along with Baby Aspirin were the stand outs among the accords. I could not believe how accurate they were.
Tussah had recommended the lovely Black March fragrance. The notes and inspirations are Rain Drops, Leaf Buds, Wet Twigs, Tree Sap, Bark, Mossy Earth and the faintest hint of Spring Flower Bulbs.
Tussah accurately described it as walking in a forest after a spring rain.
It was just breathtaking.
Winter 1972 captured what snow, slush and ice smells like. As someone who hails from Ohio...it is a scent that I get too much of. I prefer the sand and surf smells from "At the Beach 1966". The perfumer used Coppertone 1967 as the primary note. It is one of the best tropical scents on the market. It rivals my beloved Fire Island along with Monyette Paris and Vanille Frangipane.
Russian Caravan Tea was a lovely smoked tea scent with the added bonus of a note that reminded you of old books. It would have been the perfect scent if I could have turned up the volume on the tea. Burning Leaves made my Henri Bendel Firewood candle look like a wuss. Burning leaves is the best bonfire scent by far.
The best fragrance in the whole store was also the most expensive. It is Cradle of Light. It is a STUNNING blend of white floral absolutes. There are 5 different jasmines accords along with jonquils, narcissus, white lotus & tuberose. It was gorgeous and interesting. That is not always the case with lovely perfumes. They are often beautiful but they do not make you think.
We passed around the tester as if in a trance. I kept trying to breathe it all in since there was no way I could justify its purchase. I have thought about it often since I have been home. It would haunt me if not for my smitten status with the new Chanels. That No 18 grabbed me and will not let go.
I highly recommend a visit to his store/studio when you visit NYC. You can smell some stunning fragrances and scratch the ears of a beautiful gentle giant named Zephyr.

Hooray! I've been an admirer of Christopher Brosius and his fragrance philosophy since he launched the original Demeter line at Henri Bendel, over a decade ago.
I adore At the Beach 1966. I've raved about it all too many times on Makeup Alley! It's one of my favorite comfort scents, and I agree, it rivals Fire Island as a summer-smell fragrance.

I have put visiting CB on the top of my list of "things to do" when I go to NYC this summer. I cannot wait to try all these fabulous-sounding scents in person.

That is so cool about the Fifi awards. What are they like BTW? Are they fun?
This is my favorite parfumer. I have "In The Library" and it's so pretty. I buy them as presents. It's sort of oil based feeling, so when you dot a small amount on it lasts all day. It's very subtle and it's just refreshing not to have that typical cologne smell that's like all the "cookie-cutter" brands everybody else has. This guy gets it!
