The Night Belongs OPI
By Melanie Parker
OPI's latest nail lacquer launch is called Night Brights. At a time when other salon brand polishes are rolling out collections featuring pastels, OPI took a dramatic turn and went for some bold shades inspired by the blue and metallic nail polish trend for this Spring.
The collection features three dark shades, which reinforces that the vampy nail trend is here to stay for awhile longer. My pick of the vampies is OPI Ink, which is a microglittery purplish blue. It really does look like a bottle of dark blue ink held up to the sunlight. Where you can see the cobalt blue shining--so rich and bold. OPI Light My Sapphire is a more traditional navy blue shimmer. It is similar to one of Creative's most successful vampy colors, Blue Blood (which has been discontinued). My Private Jet is the boldest of the line. It's a black base with prismatic shimmer. It's not as intense a holographic blast as you get in the Designer Series, and it also doesn't have the $12.50 retail price tag. I predict that this is the one that will be the most collectible one day. Black + rainbow = $$$ on eBay in a few years.
There are also two gold colors in the collection. I Only Drink Champagne is an elegant, shimmery champagne. Whereas, Golden Rules! is a deeper gold with a metallic finish that looks like metal on the nails. It's a really interesting color and looks phenomenal on darker skin tones. It looks great on the fair-skinned model in the promotional ad, but it looks even better on darker skin.
My favorite of the collection is Give Me the Moon. It looks like a subdued silvered gray in the bottle, but on the nail, this polish let's you in on a little secret. It is actually the most beautiful lavender blue hue due to the shimmer. This may not work with every skin tone, but with my pink tone, it is mesmerizing.

you're so right about Give me the Moon! it's my fave of the collection too. just love the soft, glimmery, sort-of unexpected bluish/silver color....
I'm looking forward to Golden Rules, I think but will try them all ... and I've already started pestering the local Trade Secret on when they will have it in :). At the Dior counter -- our Dillards just received the expanded cosmetics counter so we've got Dior, Chanel, and Prescriptives now -- I fell for the new mauve ribbon lip gloss and went on the waiting list for red stocking.
Hi Annie! I've already caved on Light My Sapphire and given myself a pedicure with it. Now I think I need to own Ink as well... Where were these polishes when I needed them, back in my Goth days?! I had to resort to applying 3 or 4 coats of Wet 'n' Wild black polish. ;)
(p.s. I should have said, "Hello, Melanie!" Sorry about that!)
No worries, stanzi :^) I'm glad you have tried one of the new colors. I think Ink will be my next pedi. It looks purple in some light. Very royal, which maked it most appropriate in honor of the Queen's visit!
Thanks for the review and the great photos! I may have to cave.
gables: Red Stocking truly deserves a waiting list. It is stunning.
Stanzi: I agree.
These goth kids do not know how good they got it.
Melanie: Thanks so much for this review. The collection looks lemming worthy. I hope my nail tech gets this one. She has not been into any of the collections this summer.
P: we need to hit tradesecret.
