40 days and 40 nights of Beauty Cult Classics
Day 1, Nars Orgasm
"An Orgasm a Day, Keeps the Doctor Away" (Mae West)
This is a blush that often causes a ruckus.
Not because it is named after the elusive big "O" but because the results are often mixed. This blush can either be your holy grail cheek product or an overhyped bust.
When a product is so beloved and raved over, it loses it's cool factor.
It becomes overplayed.
Every magazine commands this to be the one blush you must own.
People prophetize that it will change your life.
I do believe that a lipgloss can lift you out of a slump and a perfume can comfort you like a plate of carbs.
But no blush has managed to change my life.
Nars Orgasm is a pinkish peach shade with gold shimmer. Coverage is buildable even though the blush is densely pigmented. It goes on fairly light with many brushes including the skunk. The shimmer factor is present but subtle. It is named for the fact that it mimics the natural flush after achieving an orgasm. It also looks like you have been sunkissed, well rested, received a good bill of health, paid off your student loans and flirted with a cute boy.

It is all about the flush.
It appears to work well with many skin tones from the uber pale to the olive toned. The blush is more warm than cool, but I have seen superior results on cool toned skin. It really is a blush that needs to tested and worked with.

It has superior lasting power even without a primer product to hold in place. The color stays true throughout the day. The price is high at $25 and is available at any local Nars counter or Sephora. The packaging is a bone of contention with me. It is rubber and seems to attract every dust particle located in your purse. It requires constant cleaning and can never be whipped out for show in a powder room.

I love this blush,I don't use it everyday but when in doubt it is my go to blush. It also lasts forever.
I really do like this blush. I don't use it enough since I switched to BE products, but now that you've remined me that I paid $25 for it, I'm going to get it out again.
I really HATE the black rubber case that shows every particle of dust and fingerprint. They should switch over to vinyl/patent leather.
This was a great start. I'm looking forward to the next 39 reviews!
I don't really get the hype, it doesn't look THAT good on me. It is just like any other blush you can buy at a lower price. I like the color but it is not perfect for my skitone. I have to keep looking for the perfect one :-D
I love it, it really is great! It is subtle, buildable and leaves me with just the right amount of color.
I think it's a great blush, but not anything super amazing or life changing. I love it because it can look really natural.
I like this blush but I find it a bit to light for my mediterranean skin tone. I use a skunk brush to layer it over Benefit Dallas and the result is much better!
I rarely wear any blush, but I *love* your Cult Classics "poster."
:)
Like a good little girl I ran out and bought this one like everyone else. This was quite some time ago. I have yet to be wowed by this shade. On me or anyone else I see it on.
I find this blush goes on quite...well, bright. I have really, really fair skin, which might be the cause of the problem, but even so I only use a tiny amount. And it still makes me look slightly clownish. If I put it on during the day, I have to white my cheeks down afterwards with a tissue/makeup sponge and put some powder on top. I like to mix it with the NARS Laguna bronzer...I have the duo compact and the two blended together are perfect for a night out...
I really, really wanted to be wowed by this shade- so much so that I continue to tell people how much I love it.
It looks awful on me. It turns orange-ish, and makes me look like I have jaundice. All I can do is hope that I don't look so terrible when I have a real orgasm.
I don't have the Orgasm powder blush, but I did buy the Multiple as soon as it came out at Sephora and I love it for adding a little color for evening (I keep it in my handbag). But since I have the Multiple, I don't really feel compelled to go out and get the powder blush.
Hated it. It didn't last very long, and looked like an overdone glitter bomb on my face. I vastly prefer a similar shade- TheBalm Hot Mama!
Has anyone tried the Orgasm Lip Balm? Any thoughts?
I'm one of the few that can't wear orgasm at all. The girl at the Nars counter swore it would work and I told her it wouldn't. She tried it anyway and then appeared shocked that it looked so horrid on me. Same goes for the gloss.
I don't know which I like better the name or the color.
But honestly $25 is pretty pricey for blush.
This is my HG blush, I am very pale; but have a great deal of yellow undertones in my skin. As a result I have a hard time finding makeup that works with my very warm, pale skin (sounds weird I know.) I love the blushes lasting power and that it look AMAZING in photos, seriously the gold shimmer photographs so well it is crazy. The only thing I dislike about this blush is that it breaks so easily, drop it once on a bathroom floor and this blush explodes into peachy pink dust, so annoying.
Love it!
Thanks for this great post, I´m looking forward to read about the other 39 products :)
Deep down inside, I love this blush. This was the first NARS product I owned and managed to go through a whole flippin' pan of it (how I managed, I have no idea. Same with Deep Throat blush too). I still reach for it now and then and still love the results (I usually use a skunk brush to apply). And as 'javajunkie' said, it WILL last forever....a never-ending Orgasm? ;)
It's a staple for me, and it's always a good blush that I return to, when I tire of newer ones. This is also one that I feel good about recommending to others.
I adore it and wear it almost every day, but I agree that it isn't the "universal color" that the mags always tout it as. It works wonderfully for some women, and is just kind of blah on others.
Deep Throat looks better on me than Orgasm. Orgasm is too pink for me (I am MAC C3)
The Orgasm lipgloss looks hideous on me too, too shimmery and peachy for my taste (my lips are quite pigmented)
opposite problems, lol
Haven't tried the multiple. I am holding out for Dolce Vita blush ;)
I just read on http://www.makeupbag.net/ that a Nars Orgasm nail polish is coming out in July as part of their Fall line. It looks like a coral creme in the bottle shot. I expected it to have a gold shimmer. But, I am sure I will cave on this once it hits the makeup counter!
Fantastic idea!!! I've been wondering for months if NARS' Orgasm is really worth the hefty price tag - same with MAC Parrot.
I like Nars blush, but Taj Mahal works better on my brown skin.
I really love this blush. I've been wearing it over the Orgasm Multiple and I love the overall effect.
I finally got this as part of the Emotional Rescue palette, and it is a pretty blush. I had avoided it because I despise disco shimmer on my face, always have, but it doesn't read that way on me. It's subtle. I still prefer a more matte blush, however.
It seems to be much more of a favorite with fair-skinned ladies like myself. On an olive complexion it's a yawn.
by the by, who's the babe in the fabulous logo? love her!
I like Orgasm, but Giorgio Armani #10 is better for me - just a tad more pink to it. Lovely.
Yea for 40 days!!
You know I am terrified of blush! But I do like this one. I think my Holy Grail is Armani #2, which is fairly similar, but pinkier and non-shimmery.
I totally think that this is a cult classic. It has been over hyped up. Don't get me wrong I think it is a great blush but the name is way better than the product.
Yay another 40 days project! I can't believe this is my 3 yr of reading Blogdorf! I'm looking forward to the next 39 days!
Just like Great Lash mascara, I don't get what the big deal is about this blush. I wanted to like it, and even though I'm super pale, it barely shows up on my cheeks. I've tried it more than once to be sure. I do like NARS Deep Throat blush. Ditto on the packaging!
Totally agree with you about the packaging- everything in my makeup bag gets on it... they need to revamp it. I haven't tried this blush, but I do love the Orgasm lip gloss and the Promiscuous lipstick!

I knew a girl who wore so much Orgasm all the time that many of my friends and I* called her 'Rosacea [Girlsname]' as she honestly looked like she had rosacea. I'm not impressed. I don't do shimmer.
* I was younger and cattier at the time.
HG HG HG HG, and recently I've started loving NARS Orgasm The Multiple!!!

This product is invisible except as a weird metallic gold cast on my face.
ITA on the NARS rubber packaging. I love the matte black when it's clean, but as soon as you touch it with your vile unclad human fingers, it begins to look miserably soiled.
Love it. Looks very pretty on me and I never have to worry about over applying it. It isn't the *only* blush I use, but I do choose it most often.
I don't like the lip gloss though. The color and consistency just don't work for me.
This one should have worked on me...but it was like there was no pigment at all. After many layers what color I got was gone in about an hour...no shimmer for me either :( I would love to find that color though in a blush that would actually stay on my face.
Orgasm definitely is a cult classic, but it's not great for me. Just a touch *too* light for my brown skin. Still, I've found it works for a good number of my clients. I love NARS blushes, though - they are excellently pigmented and several of the shades are great on me, particularly Taj Mahal, Exhibit A and Mounia.
Own it, and love it. But as others have said, it is not my everyday blush.. I use it ocassionally- and it lasts and lasts and lasts!
<3
If I'm not using Tarte Cheek stain I'm using this. Looks great with my skin tone (i'm very fair), I like that you can build on it for a more dramatic look! :)
i have orgasm too. haha. love the color! goes on very well and stays!
I love this blush. It was my first shimmery blush in my adult years and taught me I can wear and love a shimmery blush. The color is beautiful and flattering. It's my easy go to blush and it never fails me. And it lasts and lasts.
You have to consider how popular this item must be to inspire NARS to release many different sets and products from Orgasm/Laguna duo, Orgasm/Albatross duo, The Double Orgasm set, Orgasm lip gloss and now the Orgasm multiple. Honestly I think the next move in the Orgasm family will be an Orgasm lipstick or nail polish. NARS knows when they have a good thing!
No one blushes bright, shimmery pink. End of story. Like everyone else, I blush matt dark blood-red and that's the shade of blush I've been using for ever. I try not to fall for any hype.
PS. I detest Nars rubbery packaging: I had an eyeshadow that I didn't use for a while and I found it stuck to another product. The rubber had perished and created a gooey mess. Yuck!
I use this blush everyday, & I really like it. It makes me look great in photos & it does last all day. The other day though, I was in a rush for work and might've gone a little overboard because one of my co-workers asked me if I was feeling ill because I "looked a little pinkish" LOL.
I have to agree on the packaging. As soon as I got it and layed one finger on it, there was an ugly smudge. I thought, oh no, better wipe that off. It didn't. It just got worse & worse until I finally gave up & shoved it towards the back of my makeup drawer. *sigh*
Storybookheroine: They are releasing a nail polish.
Erika at Makeupbag has a picture of the bottle on her site. It looks beyond fab.
Now a lipstick would be genius.....
The rubber case actually saved my beloved Orgasm blush from breaking into a billion pieces when I dropped it on my bathroom floor. That slight cushion really helped.
And I pretty much wear this every single day. I wear it alone, wear it with bronzer, and wear it with bronzer and Sin!
Plus it was my first beauty purchase after I got my first paycheck from my first post-college full time job. So... there's definitely some sentimental value to this blush.
I bought this blush in 2004. I loved it because it lasts a long time. Fast forward to 2006 and yes, I still have the same blush I bought 2 years ago. A fire broke out in our house and burned everything we owned, we barely had time to get out. When we returned the next day to see if we can salvage anything, lo and behold, there was this melted mass of what used to be my bag, and when I cracked it open the only thing that survived was the grimy NARS compact....true story girls
Wow, look at the comments! I was extremely underwhelmed with this blush, it didn't show up except in too much shimmer. For mine, Cover Girl has a peach blush trio that achieves on me what Orgasm says it does for other girls - a gorgeous flush with more glow than pearl. Definitely worth trying, especially as it's such a cheapie.
