Fragrance of the Day: Serge Lutens Bois Oriental

I have always wanted a bell jar since my early days on makeupalley. During my last trip to Paris, I decided to visit the salon on my own. I have no sense of direction and no french language skills.
I got lost within 5 minutes of setting out on foot. I was about to give up and make my way back to the hotel when I spotted the "beetlejuice" columns. I literally skipped to the storefront.
I was nervous upon entering due to the stories I had read on makeupalley. One member had stated that the staff was unfriendly and cold during her visit. She had left in tears.
Other members chimed in about the correct way to enter and act in the salon.
I am no oaf but I still had a fear of doing something inappropriate.
I entered the salon with a loud and sing song greeting and promptly moved to the right.
I am sure I looked like a nut case.
A sales associate gave a warm smile and spoke immediately to me in english.
The experience was beyond lovely. She fed me candied violets and introduced me to every Lutens fragrance.
Caught up in the moment....I caved on two bell jars.

Bois Oriental is a less sweet version of Shiseido's Feminite du Bois.
I find it to be a whisper-light spice fragrance.
My nose detects a smidge of cinnamon, vetiver, and cedarwood.

Tell me what you think of Bois Oriental in the comments.

what IS the correct way to enter and act in a salon?

It is not intimidating at all and there are no rules really. Just smile and ask for assistance. The one thing you can not do is help yourself to testing. The SA dips the blotter into the fragrance for you to sniff. The SA's are very patient and willing to go through the entire fragrance line with you.

annie, I am so glad you had a good time! the SL people were also extremely nice to me on all the occasions I went there. But it's next door to Didier Ludot! did you go into the vintage store, or La Petite Robe Noire?

ot, but do I ever have a coat store for you when you come back to NY: An Sen on 9th Street. Divine, darling. I totally caved on the most wonderfully impractical coat.

How sad is it that I don't remember anything about this frag?!? I know I've tried it several times, but it obviously wasn't love or I'd have made it my mission to score a good-sized decant or bottle.

But no recollection? Usually Serge inspires deep devotion. Occasionally serious disgust. Only 2 frags I'm aware of (Gris Clair and UBV) are "like/love but not enough to buy more". Clearly, I need to dig this one up and try it again!

Annie, I hope you don't mind that I added your link to my blog. I have a Total Beauty scroll down. Would you consider adding my link to yours? Thanks so much.

Hmmm... I don't have the idea about Bois Oriental unless I have a chance to see it in person. But I think it's smell nice, it makes me interested about it. Thanks.
