Thank you for posting this!
Soooo..did Luca *really* recommend putting perfume on the paper strip and this is how you decide whether the perfume is any good? Whaaa?
Hugs back atcha, and hi to TBone!
The Behnaz lip gal is getting fabulouse press!! :}
I like to test perfume on a paper strip to get a general idea of whether it's a scent that I'm inclined to take any further. There are some notes that I just can't wear so I'd rather find that out on the paper strip before I use both wrists and then can't try something new.
GG: Me too!I test on paper first to determine if it is "skin worthy".
Then I test the fragrance on my skin.
I have to test on skin because scents morph or get twisted on me. I have no scientific backing on this...but I know it is true.
They're married! Fell in love writing a perfume book! That's the best story EVEr.
It is a great love story. I think she is very lucky to find someone who shares this passion for scents and wanted to collaborate with her on this book. I wish them much success with it!
OK, OK, I agree now that sometimes it is better to test on paper strip first and then move to skin. I agree with Annie on that wholeheartedly. But Luca Turin was always adamant about the fact that fragrances do not change with the chemistry of the wearer.
Anywho, I got the book yesterday and it is FAN-TAS-TIC!!! I literally could not put it down. They truly have done an amazing job and emotional associations with perfumes that they desribed were just unbelievable. Kind of what you would think deep down - they would put it on paper and then you read it and go "oh my god! That is so true!"
And this is such a great story of them falling in love and getting married...I am wishing them all the very best and quietly waiting for the second edition of "Perfumes". :D
Rose: I believe in skin chemistry too. Most fragrances smell 1000 times more amazing on Cavewoman. I keep testing some fragrances to see if my chemistry has altered. I fell in love with Caron's Aimez Moi that way.
I love the book and plan to do some posts on specific reviews this week....
Wow, Annie! This is SO fantastic for Tania - I had no idea! I hope their book does fabulously - I'm sure it will. Thanks for posting this. Mar
It's definitely true that a fragrance works with your own body's chemistry. You can put it on your clothes if it doesn't work well with your body.
Chandler Burr wrote a fragrance book that might be good, The Perfect Scent. I haven't read it but it's had great reviews. He's the perfume critic for the NYT style magazine T (for those who don't know).
I love how the woman butchered the pronunciation of eau de toilette! : )
