In only a few short days I will be in NYC with Ms Cavewoman. We plan to do serious shopping, meet up with friends and stroll through the city.
I am asking for suggestions for places to eat and things that we must see. Should we stop by the Chanel exhibit in Central Park? Where is the best street flea market to find cool vintage finds? Let us know your picks for must see destinations in NYC.
This picture is my screen saver on my work computer. I fell in love with the image after spotting it on my favorite fashion blog, Fashion is Spinach.

ooh!! have fun :) go eat at serafina, 29 e 61 street b/w park and madison. it is the best/yummiest italian restaurant. my sister took me there last time i visited her and i have been drooling over the special pizza i had there since i left. it was called the "di sofia".
also, don't think pizza and a bad atmosphere, the place is really pretty.
have fun :)!!
Speaking of pizza, of course, John's Pizzeria, and then there's Tusany Pizza, which is a little hole-in-the-wall on I believe 8th between 45th and 46th.
And if you don't have one where you live, go to Pinkberry before it gets too cold out!
i am so jealous! i love Baltazar and Pastis!
Here are my choices - for Italian there is a place at 654 Ninth Ave and it is called Cara Mia.. It is very yummy.
There is a little spanish resturant 228 W. 18th street. It is Venezuelan food. It is SO SO SO good. I mean SO good and super affordable.
If you are into cupcakes or into devils food cake then hit up Magnolias 401 Bleecker. You will be on line but if you have a friend with you or a book then you are good.
And if you don't have on by you I would hit up teh coldstone.
any questions then just email me.. emismom97@yahoo.com
I think the tickets for the Chanel exhibit are all long gone :( but you could walk by it I guess. I would if I was up there.
Have FUN, I'll be headed in next month. Holiday time, yay. Haven't been there at holidays in years.
Oh, my rec- the Charbonnel et Walker Chocolate Cafe at Saks, but you may already know about that.
and a report on Bendelirious please. Thats tops on my list to try when i go there. Give us the heads up :)
I am so completely and utterly jealous of the 2 of you! Have a wonderful trip to NYC, Have a great time shopping, and please report back with your hauls!!!
There's a fun exhibition at the Cooper-Hewitt right now of nineteenth-century interiors. The museum is beautiful, and it's located on 91st street and 5th avenue. Also, for a fashion fix check out the Gothic: Dark Glamour exhibit at the Fashion Institute of Technology Museum (27th Street at 7th Ave). For dessert I suggest Lady M on 78th between Park and Madison (order the Milles Crepes Cake).
Test drive the makeup line by that young man Edward SomethingOrOther at Bendels and tell us if it's worth the price tag! You posted on his line a while back - I think he was a model - and much posting ensued about whether he was legit and whether the line was worth it.
I moved to Cleveland from NYC 2 years ago, but whenever I go home, I always visit my favorite Italian restaurant, Sambuca, at 20 W. 72nd st (between Central Park West and Columbus). I've never eaten anything there (or any dining companions!) that was less than stellar, and the portions are huge meant to share. Think Carmine's but without the touristy-obnoxious feel to it :)
Wine bar hop on Columbus in the 70s.
Enjoy the ending of leaf peeping season in Central Park (or one of the outer borough's Botanical Gardens)
Serafina has a few locations and they are all good. Butter down on Lafayette is also yummy.
Cupcakes at Sugar Sweet Sunshine on Rivington.
I heart my city!
If you can, check out Junior's Cheesecake in the Times Square area -- the best cheesecake EVER.
Gablesgirl - His name is Edward Bess and he's at Bergdorfs. And yes, it is well worth the $.!
I tried to go to the Chanel exhibit last weekend and honestly, unless you get there at 7:30 am... forget it! The line was over 2 hours long. Have fun and let me know if you need any other reccos!
You must go to Ruby's on Mulberry between Prince and Spring for the best flat white of your life. And the oatmeal. How they keep it so perfectly non-runny all morning...I'll never know.
Then go to Moto for dinner one night off the JMZ at the Hewes stop. Right off the train, at the bottom of the stairs. No sign. Has a bike on the roof. AWESOME place. Live music every night.
Oh yes. Cheap manicures at Lily's Nails on 56th and Fifth.
INA on Prince just before Cafe Habana for great vintagey finds and cheaper hand-me-downs.
Start at 14th and Ave. B and drink your way to Houston.
Go to Von on Bleecker between Bowery and Elizabeth and have a mint julep but not on the weekend. One night during the week.
Barrio Chino at 253 Broome St, btwn. Orchard & Ludlow St. for TEQUILA baby and great food.
Have so much fun!
I was in NYC in February and you MUST visit the Guerlain Spa and Store in the Waldorf Astoria! It really is a little slice of heaven for makeup and fragrance lovers.
Have a good time!
I have cheesecake every time I go to NYC but that's because I am coming from holland; the land without cheesecake!
have a great time!
Grayburn
I fell in love with Uniqlo last winter. If you haven't been it is in Soho and they only have one US store. But it is well worth the trip. Plus, that puts you by the Shu Uemura store and the best eyelash bar ever! And I second Sambuca. Yum!
If you have time for a day trip, I highly recommend the Woodbury Common Outlet. It's huge (over 220 shops) and glorious with an outlet store for pretty much every big name designer you can think of. The selection always seems to be excellent, and if you guys don't have access to a car there's a bus you can buy tickets for that goes between NYC and the outlet. It's about 45 minutes to an hour from NYC.
