Chanel 2009 Spring Couture
I am always amazed at how Mr Lagerfeld can infuriate and delight me all in one show. One moment I am vexed at the bib shoulders and then I am consumed in a swoon over a paper flower detail.
It was the little things that made this collection special. He respected the economic climate by making the details so pure, simple and exquisite. They almost had an old fashioned, slightly grandmotherly quality to it. But on closer inspection the detail was so intricate and labor intensive. It took your breath away.
He made paper flowers and slivers of plastic look more glamorous than a crystal or a semi-precious stone.

This entire group is so un-Lagerfeld-like that it makes me think he was on vaycay with the Olsen twins and someone else designed the collection.
I agree with Patti - it's far too froufrou for Chanel - pretty but without much in the way of structure or silhouette. The overly fussy details are distracting.
Patti: But I so love this collection!!!
