Holy Toledo!Michelle is wearing Isabel Toledo....
From Newsday:
Obama's choice of a warm golden-yellow coat and dress ensemble that appeared to be brocade with a bejeweled collar is significant on at least two counts. First, the color. Since the Elizabethan Era, shades of yellow have symbolized renewal and hope, a platform on which Obama based his campaign. Also, President-elect Obama has been vocal about his desire to improve relations with Cuba, and some wonder if Michelle Obama's choice of Narciso Rodriguez for the "We Are One," concert -- another Cuban-born designer, and now Toledo, also of Cuban descent -- has meaning.

Annie! I stopped by, hoping you'd posted about this... and you have! Beautiful!!
She looks so good in that color - and so sophisticated. Lovely!
In some light, this outfit looked chartruese and not yellow. I liked it. It' had a very Kennedy-era vibe. And the girls looked beautiful in their tailored coats. I loved Malia's blue velvet belt and Sasha's orange scarf. Dr. Biden's outfit was very nice, too. It's great day for history and for fashion!
OKay, so that picture is not terribly flattering of her but I thought the dress was adorable. And I love the sunny yellow- both as a sign of hope and renewal, and just plain in contrast to a crappy winter day. I think a lot of us are loving our First Lady already.

The Toledo coat and dress were made of a thick lace overlay on a fabric that was just one or two shades lighter than the lace. It was beautiful!
