The initial buzz surrounding the new Dolce & Gabbana fragrances was pretty positive. I had high hopes and fully expected to cave on at least one bottle. The collection boasts five fragrances that have been influenced by women and tarot cards. According to our Nordstorm SA, tarot cards have nothing to do with the line. Patti(makeupalley's Cavewoman) knew better. Tarot cards were featured in a magazine spread about the fragrance along with this blurb:
"The names and numbers on the bottles relate to tarot cards. Tarot is very common in Mediterranean countries and conveys the different aspects of people's personalities."
and this
"We picked the tarot cards with the clearest, most identifiable traits such as the seducer, charmer and dreamer. We can all relate to these characters."
The first scent in the collection is called 1 Le Bateleur' Eau de Toilette. This is very light and airy for a vetiver. It is on the masculine side but the drydown is very damp earth-ish. I liked the effect.
The second fragrance was 3 l'Impératrice' Eau de Toilette. I got peaches. A small basket of peaches.
This was one of my favorites in the line until the drydown. Those peaches started to ripen and rot. I got that garbage drydown that people either love or hate. Angel lovers might love this one.
The official list of ingredients are watermelon, kiwi, pink cyclamen and musk.

'18 La Lune' Eau de Toilette smells like a mixture of candy and leather. In the beginning it was weird in a good way. The drydown just petered out.
'10 La Roue de la Fortune' Eau de Toilette was the bottle that was going to go home with me. Patti sniffed my wrist and proclaimed that it was a copy of Bond 9's Chinatown.
It is not an exact copy. No one can capture cardamon like Bond. However, it is very close and slightly unnerving. I think they might have added sugar to the mix. This is very sweet.
I am on the fence for '6 L'Amoureux' Eau de Toilette. It had a woody drydown with brief appearances of cardamon and orris.

Of course they're only available at Nordstrom. I don't have a local Nordstrom, which means I won't be sniffing these, which means I won't be buying one. I feel deprived.
I saw that Elle article too.
It was neatly done. A friend who smelled all of these liked 6 & 10 too. Haven't sniffed them myself yet.
Hm... the bottles look so much like the Chanel Exclusifs bottles! I like the tarot idea, though...
Don't worry Kristina-- they will be available in most department stores in September!!
:-D I can't believe the SA told you they had nothing to do with tarot cards. Hello, off message.
My body chemistry is such that any fragrance that is sweet-smelling no matter how subtle ends up sickly-sweet. So 10 La Roue de la Fortune is a no go for me.
1 Le Bateleur' Eau de Toilette might be the best bet. Anyway, I'd head down to Nordstorm and savor these scents.
