My picks for the best and worst dressed at the Costume Institute Gala

Best Dressed:
The #1 pick: Jessica Stam in Dior
Liv Tyler in Calvin Klein
Lucy Liu in Zac Posen
Camilla Belle in Jean Paul Gaultier
Cameron Diaz in Dior
Kate Moss in Topshop
Lisa Airen in Rodarte and a Poiret cape.

Runner Ups:
Karolina Kurkova: That wrap was stunning!
Zani Gugelman: She pulled off what Kristen Dunst was attempting to do!
Helena Christensen in Calvin Klein
Jennifer Hudson in Michael Kors: She should not bother wearing anyone else. Kors can dress her body like no one else.
Mischa Barton in Giambattista Valli
Kate Bosworth in Prada
Bee Schaffer
Molly Sims in Armani
Kerry Washington
Angela Lindvall – Costello Tagliapietra

I loved the gowns but...
Cate Blanchett in Balenciaga (It was the makeup and hair)
Lauren Davis in Nina Ricci(I never thought I would see that gorgeous dress actually fail someone)

Mixed Feelings:
Claire Danes
Iman
Brooke Shields in Oscar de la Renta
Ellen Pompeo
Mary Kate Olsen in Giambattista Valli
Sandra Bullock in Alberta Ferretti
Elizabeth Banks in Prada
Naomi Campbell

Worst:
Jessica Simpson in Robert Cavalli
Anna Wintour in Chanel
Christina Ricci in Calvin Klein: The fit seemed off.
Shalom Harlow in Viktor & Rolf: When did she get breasts?
Fabiola Beracasa
Stephanie Seymour
JLo
Eva Mendes: Not appropriate. She must have been miserable.
Chloe Seveigny in Balenciaga: Sometimes it feels too easy to pick her.
Winona Ryder in Marc Jacobs
Claudia Schiffer – Alberta Ferretti
Ellen Barkin
Caroline Trentini
Jennifer Gardner in Valentino: Not flattering and she looked like she was pissed to be there.
Sophie Dahl in Robert Cavalli: I was stunned that he managed to design something so matronly.
Ivanka Trump
Lindsey Lohan in Bally: It was not horrible but it was not good. Mary Kate did it better that evening.

She is too cool to pick on:
Charlotte Gainsbourg
Irina L – 3.1 Phillip Lim
Sally Singer

Went out on a limb and failed:
Scarlett Johansson in Stella McCartney
Kirsten Dunst in Yves Saint Laurent
Marley Shelton
Let me know your picks in the comments!

lots more misses than hits for me--but I did like Jessica Stam's and Liv Tyler's dresses. I thought L'Wren Scott looked terrific and Ellen Pompeo looked a LOT better than she usually does. the rest looked like they were trying too hard or perhaps their dermatologists/plastic surgeons were! cheers, Sara

Stam, Liv Tyler, Camilla Belle, Cameron Diaz, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Lisa Airan were my favorites.

my feelings were mixed about the looks, i felt like there was more disaster than what pleases the eye. and hey, i am glad that i'm not alone feeling that ana wintour somehow looked horrible ;)

Jessica Stam, Liv, Camilla, and Cameron Diaz were my favorites. There seemed to be more misses than hits this year, but I can't help but love the Met Gala--it's become the only event where celebrities really go all out.

I beg Blogdorf to post more photos of the dresses, especially the celebrities you've mentioned! I can't find them online!

Sara: I almost passed out when I saw Stam. That was perfection in every damn way.

Liv looked stunning. That color was magnificient!

I have always thought L'Wren was beautiful but now I can never shake off the fact that she looks like a dark haired version of Jerry Hall.

Peace: I am struggling with Charlotte. It was a cool pick...but then you look at Stam and think maybe everyone should have went home and changed... well except for Liv.

Zara: I was puzzled and slightly floored by her choice. I generally think she has great taste in all things...daytime. Night time is a different story...

Cerys: She is a quirkly gal...but this time it was too costumey and goofy. She did very well on her spiderman tour. She had some great outfits.

Theresa: I love and look forward to the MET ball. It looks so damn gorgeous every year. I heard that they had peacocks in a huge gold cage this year. They also had floral arrangements in red and purple.
I agree, there were so many misses this year. I also had a lot of dresses that did not impact me one way or another. Some were just boring.

Patti: Which ones?
I found a lot of shots at fashionspot and style.com.
Also look at the new People issue. They had a great spread!

hey lovely A! great choices as usual.

as for me? i loved Lucy, hated Cameron. i desperately wanted America's dress; it's the type of thing i'd wear, but it was a bit informal for the event. i thought Kate Bosworth looked like bad origami. Cate Blanchett, who normally looks lovely, looked like an egyptian zombie. adored Mary-Kate's dress but hated her makeup. i celebrate the fact that Ashley looked like she was at a normal weight.

finally, anna wintour totally pulled it off, but i want to see that dress on some of my gothier friends. ;)
