Chanel's 31 Rue Cambon
It was the perfumer's take on a modern chypre without the lovely oakmoss.
How did they do it?
I like to say pixie magic but according to Luca Turin it was a "pepper-iris accord."
This fragrance is sophisticated and terribly elegant.
It seems out of place in this vulgar state the world is currently in.
When you inhale this scent, you can not help to think of Kelly handbags, monogrammed compacts and white gloves.
This is not a scent that the Paris Hilton's of the world are wearing.
This is something Capucine wore to court William Holden.
It is available at Bergdorf Goodman

To Everyone: I had to use this Peter O'Toole picture because I am a fan.
I think it's a perfect picture :). I want a trip to NYC just to take in these Chanel releases!! Sadly, my husband is having none of it (but I think I'll have the final word on matters Chanel ;). Are they limited edition -- when do you think they will go back into the vault?
"It seems out of place in this vulgar state the world is currently in." Well, of course, that fragrance is not out of place at 31 Rue Cambon, which is the 'mothership' for Chanel and where Coco went daily. Coco used to live at the Paris Ritz Hotel (the back entrance of the Ritz is Rue Cambon) and walk down the street to her boutique.
If you look at the top of a bottle of Chanel No. 5, you can see the characterisic rectangular shape w/angled corners. That shape is the same shape (and proportion) as the Place vendome, on which the main entrance of the Ritz is placed. It must have been Coco's tribute to the landmark on which she lived.
That's all my Paris stories for today! :)
I purchased les exclusifs from fragrant fripperies per your recommendation and this scent is my favorite of the collection. I am in love!
Of course that's Peter O'Toole! I don't know what movie that photo is taken from, but I loved her in The Pink Panther. We rented it a couple of months ago, and I marvelled at her comedic talents against the late, great Peter Sellers.
Where was I? Oh yes, 31 Rue Cambon!
A, this is my favorite of the collection, but it's a bit too fleeting for my taste. I am holding out for the parfum version. When that debuts, I will be the first in line to purchase a bottle.
Hugs!
This has nothing to do with this particular post, but remember that one perfume of yours I tried and LOVED? You're probably thinking, Yeah, sure...that narrows it down. Anyway, we have to figure it out because I really want a change from the old Lolita Lempicka phase I can't get out of. I just got back from S.Padre Monday...I will call u at work tomorrow to make plans!
How absolutely perfect to choose a picture of Peter o'Toole trying to win back the affections of the divine Capucine for this perfume!
For those of you who asked, the movie is What's New Pussy Cat - one of Peter O'Toole and Woody Allen's best!
Can't wait to try this perfume, thanks for the recommendation.
