I am reading the book French Women Don't Get Fat by Mirelle Guiliano. I am looking for a solution to lose weight. It has great common sense tips. The one that got me was the suggestion that Americans drink too much coffee. According to Guiliano the french drink coffee in the morning and after a meal. Not all day like me. I am sure she would be horrified by vanilla nut creamer. This will be the hardest thing to give up but I have to start weening myself off of it. I need to reinvent myself this year.

I have never been to France, and I wonder if there really are NO fat women there. However, I have been to Rome, and the only fat people there were the tourists. American women AND men tourists. Sadly, at the time, I was one of them.
The lessons I have learned from this book is to eat smaller portions(this is my #1 problem),do not deny myself any pleasures, walk more, drink water and vino more and to pay attention to what I put in my body.
I think I need to start moving away from carbs(*sob*) and eat more meats and fish. Carbs are truly my problem. They are all I want! (Great to see you Miss N! I have missed you so much on MUA!)
Annie, you are one sexy girl, so you griping that you want to look like a slender Frenchwoman is a little silly. You have true Italian va-va-voom. But in the interests of health and enjoyment of life, I do think it is better to taste than to scarf, to enjoy wonderful things in small doses than to gorge on plenty of bland things, and to drink expensive fine Chinese tea instead of coffee with vanilla nut creamer...but I am cranky that way. Seriously, since learning to cook, I eat much more sensibly. One thing the French do -- or at least they do at bistros that aim for Frenchness here -- is have salad with every darn thing. And if you can learn to make a wonderful simple salad, it is a beautiful thing to do. A glass of white wine, a delicious salad of crunchy lettuces and nuts and fruits and cheese in a homemade vinaigrette, a piece of excellent toasted bread...the perfect dinner.
Tbone-
You just made me hungry!
