My best dressed list for the Oscars:
Cate Blanchett (Valentino) was just perfect.
Natalie Portman in Lanvin. She redeemed herself.
Gwen Stefani. I loved everything but the hair.
Selma Blair. Did anyone see her? I am just stunned. She looked spectacular!
Nicole Ritchie. She keeps picking great gowns. Too bad that she can not influence her partner in crime. Both Hiltons looked horrific. That is being kind.
Hilary Swank: Great cut and it was molded to her body. I love when the clothes fit at the Oscars. It makes me think that the designer and star cared about the evening.
Halle Berry: Great color and fit.
Beyonce: I loved the black gown that she arrived in. Her makeup was fab all night.
Worst dressed:
The Hiltons: They looked like they need to be dipped in a vat of Bactine. I know that is harsh but they look really contagious. JMHO
Paltrow: I am in the minority on this one. She consistently wears things that do not fit her. I do not understand. Hair and earrings looked great though. I love her style off the red carpet.
Penelope Cruz: The bow looked a mess. I saw one picture were it looked like it was coming undone and was crushed.
Melanie Griffith: Hot Garbage.
6 Inspired Comments:
I realize it is a different topic in a way, but for worst dressed you left out Johnny Depp, who looked simply absurd. I thought Robin Williams looked silly too.
Annie, who is that cute cartoon lady? She looks like the amazing and talented Edith Head! LOL
I loved Edith Head! She designed the stunning gown for Bette Davis in All About Eve, the one at the party, with Davis on the staircase delivering that famous line, "Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night!"
I love all your comments on the dresses and the looks. I plan to watch more of the reruns today.
Hi Best Friend,
I haven't seen a lot of those dresses yet as I haven't seen the after-pary pictures. There were a lot of dresses that I liked but felt that the color or fabric should have been different. What about makeup? I didn't like Swank's makeup at all - which such a dark color she really have done at least a dramatic lipstick!
This year's dresses were indeed fantastic. I had a lot of favourites, namely Cate Blanchett, Emmy Rossum and Gwenyth. I'm so glad the Oscars is such a brilliantly dressed event, but am not so pleased that it is right in the middle of fashion weeks and steals away the spotlight. Anyhow, I must go and look up a picture of the Hiltons now to see how horrific they were!
Now I need to go see that movie just to see the cute Edith!
You know everything, Patty! LOL
I forgot to watch the Oscars -- I was having too much fun playing Karaoke Revolution with the husband, pretending to be a rock star. I did see some photos after the fact. Cate Blanchette, I must protest, looked like a banana. Maybe it's just the flash photography, but her pallor was cadaverous. And I *sort* of thought Halle Berry's dress, while flattering and attractive, was a little beauty pageant. Gwyneth was not working that Stella McCartney number, which is sad. How such an attractive woman picks such an unflattering dress, I can't imagine. Does she own a full-length mirror? Did Apple barf on the dress she meant to wear?
As for Johnny Depp, I agree with the Manolo. If you are the Johnny Depp, you are the genius and exempt from petty carping about your clothes. Although one is almost certain that you, Johnny Depp, are more attractive without the clothes. However, one would like you to prove that, just for certainty's sake.
