Star Wars Revenge of the Sith Review:
I saw it last night with my good friend and co-worker Thais. It was sold out and was packed with adults and a few children. I am a huge fan so this review is going to be positive and gushing. I think this one rivals...Empire Strikes Back. To a true Star Wars fan this is going to be a shocking statement. Critics and hardcore fans agree that Empire is the best of the series. I am going to go out on a limb and say that this is worthy competition to Empire. It is amazing and so damn good. The swordplay is exquisite. In past Star Wars films lightsaber scenes were always good but looked difficult. It seemed like Luke Skywalker was really putting all his energy to swing that saber. Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker made it looked like a piece of cake. It actually was breathtakingly beautiful and so graceful.
Anakin's downfall was heartbreaking and well done. I think the scene where he finally breaks down and gives himself to the Emperor is one of the most memorable scenes in the whole series. This disturbed me more than any of the other scenes. There are many scenes not suitable for young children. I think the slaughter of younglings (jedi children) in the jedi academy (BTW: The viewer does not see the scene...just Anakin turning on his lightsaber),Mace Windu's death(he had a greatdeath scene) and Anakin burning in the lava pit might disturb children under the age of 12.
George Lucas made vast improvements to the script and dialogue. This movie is not so cringe-worthy. In fact there are some great lines in this one.
Lucas also improved the relationships between the characters. I think his great failing in these last films is that you never get the feeling of camaraderie between the characters. Luke,Han and Leia made such a great team and you cared what happened to them. You loved to root for them. This film showed how close Anakin and Ben were. The first 10 minutes of Sith was a complete throwback to those infamous side battle adventures of Han and Luke. I forgot how much I missed that. When the final fight scene arrives in the lava pit you actually feel the heartbreak and disappointment in Kenobi. Ewan was brillant and made that scene 100 times better. I have always been a fan since before trainspotting but he really has me now.
So overall I would give this movie high raves and encourage hardcore and semi-fans to attend. Pay special attention to the scenes to find George Lucas. Rumor is he appears hitchcock-like in a frame. I tried to find him but I got caught up in the movie. I did spot his kids. No Sophia Coppola sightings this time. I think the girl from Whale Rider is in the last frame as the Naboo Queen. Chewie is in the film and has a close bond with Yoda. No Han Solo or Boba Fett in this movie.
Let me know what you think when you see the movie. I love talking "Star Wars". I am a Sci-Fi junkie.

Yay! I was hoping you'd come back with good news. Will and I decided that the insanity of a New York opening weekend was too much for us to handle, so we're waiting until it's been out a few weeks before we venture in. (We've tried to see blockbusters on opening weekend before, only to end up in the first row, suffering neckaches for hours.) So glad you loved it! And now the cycle is complete. Are you sad?
I am very sad.
Damn Lucas for going out with a bang and making me want more.
The both of you will love it! It makes up for the lackluster two previous movies. I am looking forward to seeing it again. LOL
I'm so glad to hear you liked it! I had plans on going with my sister while she was in town but at the last minute we changed our minds. Maybe I'll go after the hype.
Will and I just saw it last night, finally. It was great. Ewan McGregor lifts the quality of the whole movie practically singlehandedly, making it possible for me to forgive the undeniably crappy acting throughout by Hayden Christensen, who is a good looking young man, but honestly, a godawful actor. When Anakin is sliding into the lava, Ewan was so good at expressing the horror and the heartbreak of Obi-Wan. I got insane chills when I watched them lower the Darth Vader mask onto his face, and when we heard that telltale breathing through the mask, the whole audience shivered.
