Any recommendations for non-shopping fun in New York?
So far my plans are a Greta Garbo and Sylvia Plath exhibit, a trip to the Strand, dinner at a place called the Supper (if anyone has heard anything about this place let me know!),Strawberry Fields in Central Park and seeing the band Bauhaus in Times Square. This whole trip is planned around this concert.
So any recs concerning must see sites, great places to eat, and of course any funky shops that are hidden jewels in the city.
Disclaimer: This trip will not have any Bergdorf Goodman or Barneys visits. No Caron. No TAK. Maybe a quick stop in a Bond store to sniff Bleeker Street. Maybe a cupcake grab at magnolia. Maybe a pearl market run for crunchy asian snacks.
Plea to Farran: What was the name of that vintage clothing store that you spotted the Hermes Kelly bag? I would love to visit that store while I am there.

Your wish is my command, O stylish one. The store is Ina, with three branches: 21 Prince Street, 101 Thompson St., and 208 E 73 St. They're consignment shops and get a lot of model cast-offs. I saw the Birkin at the Thompson Street one; that's also where I got my vintage Gucci. That one also, IME, had the nicest SAs. The one at Prince St. was snob central but had nice stuff. I haven't been to the uptown one.
Have a wonderful time!
I am so excited you are coming to NY! I'll think of some fun things to do in my fair city...
Ina is a must! I bought a fabulous vintage Gucci wallet that is v. similar to the new line. it is a classic! I bought it at the Prince Street location! There is a fabulous Van Gogh exhibit at the Met, with his drawings running through Dec. 31st that is a must see. Patina is another great vintage store in SOHO 451 Broome St (at Mercer) 212.625.3375 For other great vintage shopping check out Zachary's Smile in the West Village. good prices. 9 Greenwich Ave (between 6 ave & christopher st) 212.924.0604 for something different i like old japan satya & butik also in west village. Old Japan has some vintage kimonos & japanese antiques. Butik has a variety of antiques, clothing & jewelry that is fun & unique. & Satya has some great jewelry.

Have you ever been to the Forbes Galleries? It's Malcolm Forbes personal collection of "stuff" and it's housed in the old Forbes Magazine building on 5th ave and 10t st. He has entire rooms of toy soldiers arranged in battle, a collection of presidential letters and memorabilia, lots of antique toys (including the first Monopoly board ever made) and an art exhibition that changes every few months. He used to have Faberge eggs, too, but I think the family auctioned them.
This is a fun place to visit, it's small and quaint but you won't find a collection like this anywhere else.
Thanks for all the suggestions!
I will print them out today at work!
Tania! :-)
I like the International Bar in the Village. But then, bars are always at the top of my list of places to visit! LOL.
