40 Days and 40 Nights of Primers

Primer #13 is another multi-purpose product, a brand new item from Christian Dior, called Diorskin Icone Photo Perfect Creme To Powder Makeup. I purchased shade 001 Translucent, which was the only one available at Nordstrom a few weeks ago, but now I understand it will soon be available in skin shades as well. Readers with oily skin, stand on alert, you may like this product!

The Icone is packaged in the signature navy blue shade, in a nice tube that is easy to hold and use. I love a tube for the ability to control just how much product comes out. No waste here. Icone Translucent is a milky-white, rather thick cream texture, but with that familiar silicone feel that seems to be the trend for all of the new primers that continue to show up at counters. But when Icone Translucent is smoothed on the skin, there is definitely a bluish cast to the product. Hmmm. Weird.

Application is easy, and I paid attention to the instructions in the enclosed booklet, working small areas at a time and starting in the middle of the face and working outward. My skin felt like velvet. Bluish-white velvet, but nonetheless I was liking the way it felt. But foundation over top of this product felt very heavy and thick. It was difficult to smooth out my foundation on top of the Icone, and I had to keep dabbing and rubbing to prevent uneven application of the foundation. A close look in the mirror showed many uneven areas. And the Icone turned my lovely La Prairie foundation into a matte finish!

In all fairness, by the end of the day, my face looked very good, no uneven wear and no streaks, no color change. Icone is very drying. I noticed some flakiness and the very dry finish at the end of the day. So here is the evaluation. I would definitely say that this product could be useful as a primer for persons who have very oily skin, even though the ingredient list includes mineral oil. It's not oily in the least. I think it would be better to use this under powder only. I plan to try that. I am looking forward to trying this product in a skin shade, but then it won't be a primer, will it?
