Happy Belated Birthday to my fellow Duranie Christine!
http://astheclevercrowflies.blogspot.com/
I met her in 7th grade at History Day. She was wearing a fedora and had the coolest duran duran pins. Of course we had to become friends.
Moving on the floor now babe you're a bird of paradise
Cherry ice cream smile I suppose it's very nice
With a step to your left and a flick to the right
you catch that mirror way out west
You know you're something special
and you look like you're the best
Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand Just like that river twisting through a dusty land
And when she shines she really shows you all she can
Oh Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grande I've seen you on the beach and I've seen you on TV
Two of a billion stars it means so much to me
Like a birthday or a pretty view
But then I'm sure that you know it's just for you
Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twisting through a dusty land
And when she shines she really shows you all she can
Oh Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grande
Hey now woo look at that
did she nearly run you down
At the end of the drive
the lawmen arrive
You make me feel alive, alive alive
I'll take my chance
cause luck is on my side or something
I know what you're thinking
I tell you something
I know what you're thinking
Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twists across a dusty land
And when she shines she really shows you all she can
Oh Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grand
Her name is Rio she don't need to understand
And I might find her if I'm looking like I can
Oh Rio, Rio hear them shout across the land
From mountains in the north down to the Rio Grande
Do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do

I was not a Duranie myself (I was a Police fan...no way Simon LeBon or John Taylor could take Sting's place), but I had a best friend who was crazy for them in middle school and all through high school. That was the only music in her car. My favorite old Duran Duran song is probably "Planet Earth" or "Girls on Film"; but I also loved the song "Come Undone," from the 90s!
God I loved John and Nick. Nick had the BEST eye makeup EVER.
I loved REFLEX (flex flex flex flex) ..I think I always sang the words all wrong, but I loved it.
I also loved "Girls On Film" and "View To a Kill" (I'm Bon....Simon LeBon) SWOON! I loved 80's British Rock with a passion. I used to stay up late and listen to a British Radio Show called Rock Over London...it was indie and underground and it came on WAY past my bedtime. I loved it!
Thompson Twins, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Howard Jones--ETC--it was great!
Happy Birthday Ms. Crow!!!
Mary: I loved Secret Oktober!!!!
It was a B side. I hate the actual 45! LOL
I have never parted with my albums nor my pins.
John Taylor has aged amazingly well. Nick looks the same. Simon...well he has seen better days.
Greeneyes: If the Police ever do a reunion show...I am there. I will pay $$$ for that.
Peej: I used to listen to that! I think I might still have tapes made from that radio show. Did you listen to Adam Ant? That was another childhood crush of mine.
Stand and Deliver!!!!
Melvis: Girls on film has stood up to time. Still sounds great.
OMG I am the biggest Duranie myself. LOL I guess Save a Prayer is my all time favorite, but I love them all. As I have grown older, my real favorite is their remake of Come Up and See Me, which was a b side of one of the foreign versions of The Reflex, I think. My hubby took me to see them last year for our anniversary - what a guy! ;)
new moon on monday..and i was so excited b/c nick married a chic originally from iowa (where i grew up)...
i thought i had a chance :)
Oh, Rio is one of my favorite albums of all time. I love everything on it, but the underrated "Hold Back the Rain" is one of my faves.
I always liked Roger; sweet, shy Roger. And of course, Simon. Ah. D2.
Oh, I forgot. My friend and I saw them at a concert -- it was sold out, but we hung out back behind the stage (it was at Golden Gate Park) and heard it all. Well, we had special viewing because we could see the band hanging out backstage, and when they came out to perform, they walked about two feet in front of us, and (oh. my. gawd.) Simon actually TOUCHED my friend's index finger.
I asked her if I could suck on it, just a little, but she thought it was grose ;)
Mine is The Reflex for sure!
LOVED Adam Ant...do you think my love of British androgynous singers in loads of eye makeup are what and shaped my adult obsession with men who will never love me due to their sexual orientation?
I do.
Don't drink don't smoke what do you do??? I was alwasy a goody two shoes (((adam ant))
That is too funny that you have tapes of Rock Over London. I would SO love to hear that. Oh and Till Tuesday --Hush Hush even downtown, voices carry--I LOVED TILL TUESDAY--Oh and Simply Red!
80's Brit Rock RULES!!!!
OMGosh! Do you even know I have two Duran Duran Cd's? One is Greatest and the other one is "Ordinary World." Well at least I hope that is what it's called, its been a while since I've looked at it.
I like The Reflex, Rio and Hungry Like the Wolf. I also like their version of White Lines.
3 cheers for Duran Duran (and everyone who was a product of the 80's!)
Wow, more Duran fans! Sweet. :-D
I guess my favorite "old"song of theirs is "A View To A Kill", just love it. Hard to pick just one though!
My other fave is from their recent "comeback" album: "Reach Up For The Sunrise". I defy anyone to sit still during that song, it's pure pop perfection.
Planet Earth, but The Chauffeur awakened something unknown in my grade 6/7 hormones.
I was a big time Duranie.
My jacket was bulletproof with square buttons and my walls were adorned with over 100 posters and even a black satin Duran Duran flag.
I saw them about a year ago, and Simon looked remarkably well. They had these "VIP" areas right beside the stage and they took young girls from the audience and put them there, I guess as an ego boost.
I pissed me off because anyone there who was a true hardcore fan was over the age of 30.
My friend and I would write out the song lyrics and keep them in our Duran Duran duotangs.
Holy Crap! Thanks Ann! I didn't even realize that this was a post for me until I started reading. I was time warped by the image of our beloved "Rio."
As for History Day, don't forget my pink ankle boots!
As for my old faves, I guess I'd have to say "Rio," of course, "Is There Something I Should Know," "Hungry Like the Wolf," "Girls on Film" and "Secret October."
I also loved Adam Ant. "Desperate but Not Serious" and "Stand and Deliver" are such a great songs!
U2 also was top on my list after I heard "Sunday Bloody Sunday."
I "discovered" my love for The Police by 9th grade!
"Hungry Like a Wolf" was listened to over and over again in my room during the 80s. Ahh, the memories ;)
"Hungry Like the Wolf" and "Come Undone" were my favorites. I know "Come Undone" came later but it always made me feel much older and much more sophisticated than I actually was. LOL!
I have an impressive 80s playlist on my iPod. I burned it for a friend once and it took up 7 CDs! I think it is time to start distributing it to my 80's-lovin friends...
Adam Ant! I loved him! When I was in 9th grade (oh, it could not really have been 1983), a girl from my class went to see him at Six Flags...and came back to school the next day with a piece of his torn, still wet-with-sweat-tshirt. *Everyone* had to touch it.
Cerys: Like I could ever forget those boots!
Hope your bday was special and wonderful!
Everyone: I am so excited to see so many Duranies visiting.
Kerry anne: We soooooooo would have been friends in gradeschool. I also had those square buttons. I am beginning a hunt for them and I promise to post pictures when I unearth them!
Heck..I might still have some vintage Tiger Beats.
