Men's Beauty Week:
Ormonde for men is one of my favorite fragrances for men. The notes are similar to Ormonde for Women but more greener.
The notes are juniper berry, bergamot, pink pepper, cardamom and coriander seeds, oudh and black hemlock, vetivert, cedar, sandalwood and musk.
From Wikipedi: In ancient Greece, hemlock was used to poison condemned prisoners. The most famous victim of hemlock poisoning is probably Socrates. After being condemned to death for impiety in 399 BC, Socrates was given a potent solution of the hemlock plant.
From the Journal of International Plato Society: In English, 'hemlock' refers not only to poison hemlock, but to water hemlock, hemlock water dropwort, lesser hemlock (parsley), and other herbs as well, all resembling each other in their lacy, umbrella-like flowers and tiny fruits. They are members of the Umbelliferae plant family, a very large and widespread group that includes such edible vegetables as carrots, celery, dill, parsley, and parsnips. It is easy for the various hemlocks to be mistaken for these vegetables, often with dire results. The root of poison hemlock, for example, looks like a white carrot or parsnip, and its leaves, especially in the first year of the plants two-year cycle, closely resemble parsley.-http://www.nd.edu/~plato/bloch.htm by Enid Bloch
Editors note: Tussah sent me this link concerning the evergreen tree hemlock http://www.cnr.vt.edu/dendro/dendrology/syllabus/factsheet.cfm?ID=263. This makes more sense. The poison hemlock is said to smell like "mouse". I was startled that such a great scent can come from a base of a poison that smells musty and mouse-like. Of course...it was more fun wearing a scent made from poison instead of evergreen.
This scent can only be purchased at the Ormonde Jayne site. If you have never tried any of her scents then you are in for a treat. This is my favorite fragrance house. I would highly recommend ordering the sample set. The sample size vial is fairly generous and you can at least get two wearings from it. My personal favorites are Ormonde, Champaca and Tolu.
