Rock the Gloss Challenge for Monday July 31st:

MAC Cockatease
A rich coral color with a silver shimmer.

Lipstick does not have a particular origin. However, it is known to have been used around 5000 years ago in ancient Babylon, when semi-precious jewels were crushed and applied to the lips and occasionally around the eyes. Ancient Egyptians extracted purplish-red dye from fucus-algin, 0.01% iodine, and some bromine mannite, which resulted in serious illness. Cleopatra had her lipstick made from crushed carmine beetles, which gave a deep red pigment, and ants for a base. Lipsticks with shimmering effects were initially made using a substance found in fish scales called pearlescence.-WIKIPEDI

"Cockatease" is a hilarious name.

BTW, you left the -a off the end of Wikipedia, but I love the idea of a Wikipedi. It's like a pedicure that anybody can touch up.

And PS I'm wearing a Chanel Cristalle gloss whose only indication of shade is the number 18.

I adore reading about the origins of cosmetics! =) though it's not very academic, you might want to pick up a book called "Lipstick: a celebration of the world's favorite cosmetic." It's by Jessica Pallingston. It's written like a very long beauty magazine article, so it's quite an easy read, w/ a very conversational feel to it. It's not my favorite, b/c I want more history, but it's fun!

Me: no lipstick today... work is bad! =(

Tbone: LOL! I better go edit that.
You would look good with this lipstick. It is a great coral.

Pattyg: I was just at Walgreens with soul girl and I could not remember the name of your revlon combo. I will write it down next time.

Tbone: What does it look like?

Koneko: I want to start a beauty book collection. I will start a list!!!
I hope tonight is very relaxful and peaceful!!!
Hugs!

Annie, it's high gloss, with just a touch of shimmer, very sheer, in a neutral berry. Very YLBB.

Yesterday was L'Oreal Colour Riche lipstick in Sandstone with a discontinued Avon Glazewear shade called Delish (peachy coral with flecks of gold) on top of that.

Today, MAC Underworld lipstick - whether or not I end up leaving the house, if at all!

Today I wore Lancome Rouge Magnetic in Cherub - a medium ripe berry color, like the rosebud lips on Renaissance cherub paintings, I guess! Most of my lipsticks are Lancome, their color range just agrees with me and I like the feel of them.

tbone: I need more berry lipsticks. I am lacking in that department.

meimei: I have been buying a lot of corals this last year. I just keep reaching for them.
Tell me about underworld.

Flora: I am going to check out that color on thursday. You had me at "like the rosebud lips on Renaissance cherub paintings".

Koneko: I have a few perfume books but thats it so far.
It would be a great idea to start a beauty book reading club!!!!!
I am going to see if there is an interest.

For you, Annie, my blog entry on red lipsticks and the brownish-burgundy goodness that is Underworld:

and the shade itself is right here:

I'm also in love with Revlon's Raisin Glaze lip gloss as well, which I just bought here in Manila.
