Rock the Gloss Challenge for the weekend:

I am wearing my trusty Kiehl' Lip Blam #1 while reading the new issues of Vogue and Allure. What is your lippie today?

There is a great fragrance article in Allure. They interviewed niche perfumers and asked what their favorite fragrance was. Almost everyone answered Serge Luten's Ambre Sultan. The Le Labo gang states "Ambre Sultan was my first crush in perfumery, and I made it mine for years. It is almost spiritual."

What is your fragrance crush?

I have several crushes. They are in no particular order Bond's Chinatown(no surprise), Ormonde Jayne's Ormonde and Champaca, Guerlain's Mitsouko and L'Heure Blue, Lancome's 2000 et une Rose and Now or Never, and pretty much the entire house of Malle. I have a unrequited crush with Serge Luten's Fumerie Turque. I hope to hook up with him in the fall.

This summer I fell for Serge Luten's Fumerie Turque. One side-effect of the airline rule against liquids on planes is that my bottle cannot be replaced b/c there is no way to put an SL bottle in checked baggage. I have litle confidence that the bottle and its glass stopper would remain full all throughout the flight. I understand the necessity for the rule on planes, of course. Maybe they can re-design the bottle w/a screw top?

While Amber Sultan is certainly a worthy scent, I find it discouraging that people's memories are so short. Le Labo's "first crush in perfumery" was released in the year 2000? What are they, 16?

I may be marking myself as an old lady with this admission, but my first fragrance crush was Shalimar, which my grandmother wore exclusively. It was followed by Tabu, L'Heure Bleue, L'Air du Temps, Fleurs de Rocaille, Rive Gauche, Chanel No. 22... More recent faves include Fumerie Turque, Caron Tabac Blond, Montale Vetiver des Sables... and I'd have to say my biggest current crush is Habanita parfum, which has been around for more than 80 years.

Crushes! Too many of them... ;-)

First crush ever was H2O+ Mariel. My hugest crush was for L'Artisan La Chasse... all-time favorite. Also big crushes on Chanel Gardenia parfum, Serge Lutens Fleurs d'Oranger, L'Artisan Vanilia, Marc Jacobs, Frederic Malle En Passant, L'Artisan Fleurs d'Oranger (tragic pricing!)

(I have a penchant for L'Artisan it seems)

Current crush developing for Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom & Honey and CdG Avignon...

Long time lurker, first time comment.

I too, fell for H20 Muriel. And I'll always and forever be a Guerlain girl. I wear Samsara in the winter and I love LOVE Shalimar.

When I was 16, I spent a year in Paris as a student and there was this tiny little shop where you could blend your own fragrance. I called it Eau de Paris (I was so clever) and wore for years.

Ambre Sultan, the most wearable of the Serge Lutens oriental fragrances! And my chosen pirate fragrance, for Halloween, when I don my hook and eyepatch.

I've loved a lot of fragrances, and wore and loved Shalimar and L'Heure Bleue undoubtedly as my first grownup scents, but my first genuine fragrance crush (obsession, fascination, stalking) was Bulgari Black. Today, as you know, I share your Chinatown crush something fierce. I also developed late but powerful crushes on Diorissimo and Chamade.

Ever since you let me try it I have had a huge crush on Guet Apens. Also have crushes for Serge Lutens Bois oriental, Frapin 1270, Ormonde woman (still plotting to get this) & now the extinct Gobin Doude Nuits au desert.

Anon: I think Barneys will be carrying FT in the fall. It might be exclusive to Barneys but I have not seen any final word on MUA. I hope Aedes gets it.

Redqueen: I think it was his most serious crush. 16 is the age of first loves/lusts.
You have had beautiful taste in your scent crushes. You and tbone are under the spell of Habinata. I might have to try the parfum version. My run in with the EDT was hell.

koneko: Excellent crushes!
I also have been thinking of that new Jo Malone Shawn showed us. That was so un-malone like. It was excellent.

mensch71: Welcome and I hope you post again!
I want to sniff vintage Shalimar. Tbone says it is stunning and nothing like the modern day version.

tbone: You have to take a picture of the pirate costume!!! When Chamade or Black is mentioned I instantly think of you. Those are your signatures.

Tussah: I regret the Gobins. To think I passed that TAK clearance table up.

Griffie: All three are your signatures. Perfect Love smells so amazing on you.
