What happens in the Bond store....stays in the Bond store!!!
I was lucky to have tried the West Side fragrance several months ago with Cavewoman and a small group of friends at the Bond store. Laurice was kind enough to host us at her flagship store. She showed us a magical afternoon filled with great conversation and beautiful fragrances.
We all took an oath that what we sniffed and saw would have to be kept to ourselves. The fragrance industry is very cut throat and any little piece of information leaked could be devasting. So I have been silent and keeping this secret. It has been hard because I was blown away by this fragrance. It is the type of fragrance that makes you want to shout from the rooftops.
This is a rose & amber based fragrance. I am a sucker for this combination ever since I fell so hard for Lancome's 2000 et une Rose. They share characteristics but they are remarkably different. The vanilla and musk notes in West Side give it a richness and smoothness that 2000 does not have. The rose is a major player in this scent but peony sneaks in there to steal some of its thunder. No one tries to steal 2000 et une Roses thunder. The Lancome roses are gangsters. No note is foolish enough to take them on.
Westside has a more complicated and richer drydown.
It is a process that is enjoyable.
I love sniffing my wrist after a few hours to see what new note has emerged.
So the question is...
Which do I love better Bond's West Side or Lancome's 2000 et un Rose?
I love them both but West Side is really turning my head.
I am smitten.
The launch date is November 1st and will be available in the 3.4 oz superstar bottle for $185(Which is stunning!) and 1.7 oz. travel size ($125).
West Side may be purchased by the ounce ($45), either in a 2-ounce basic spray flacon with gilt honeycomb cap ($25---this is what houses my Bond Broadway Nites), in an array of fashion colored bottles ($40 - $70) or in our unique vintage or art bottles, featured in a wide variety of designs ($60 - $200).
The vintage bottles are lovely.
The scent will be available at the Bond site www.bondno9.com
Bond stores and Saks.
I want to end this review with the pyramid that Bond sent me with the notes. When Laurice first shared this with us I thought it was adorable.
The ROSEā¦. paying a
vist to Roseland. (How quaint.)
YLANG YLANG doing what
it does best: the meringue
The presumptuous little PEONY, all
grown up and going to graduate school
SANDALWOOD as impudently smooth as salsa jazz
AMBER in diva mode, as deep and rich as a mezzo-
soprano singing Carmen.
Normally naughtly VANILLA goes elegant and takes a trip to
Avery Fisher Hall.
MUSK that misbehaves when it meets vanilla and starts singing the blues.

I can't wait to try this one. I'm addicted to New Haarlem and would love to find another Bond that would make me swoon.
What do you think of the SL rose frags? (Besides FT of course)
I've only ever bought one Bond fragrace (can't remember what it was) and I had to run back to the store to return it because when it dried on me it smelled like a baby's diaper - unused, but still not what I want to smell like.
This one sounds lovely, though. I will have to give Bond another chance.
I love this one. Love it. And it comes out on my birthday. A sign, no?
Love your description. I am a huge rose fragrance lover, and can't wait to try this one. I haven't found a Bond that I love yet, so perhaps this will be the one...
Bond frags, in general, have A LOT of personality. Of course, it's all subject to so many different factors that you'll hear an incredible variety of opinions.
Try them, at least once, perhaps more often, before you make a purchase. There are loads of samples around.
Find a SA who really knows the line. A good way to tell is to ask them about obscure notes. Do your research ahead of time & you'll know if THEY know what their talking about.
Look at the display. Is it Mother's Day but they are "featuring" Wall Street? (This actually happened at a SAKs near me.)
Does the juice in the urns look particularly dark? Fashion Avenue is NOT the color of car lubricant.
If this is what you see, shop for your Bonds elsewhere.
Then email the flagship store with your experience. They really do want to know.
Now what got me onto all this?
Oh yeah....I'll be trying West Side at the next Sniffa event in NYC. Can't WAIT!
Hugs,
Christine
I love Fanny Ardant...
I'm with Annie on this one. I thought that Lancome had made the most perfect rose scent, and I went through four and a half bottles of 2000 Et Une Rose before the day I got to try West Side. It was instant love. I do not think that there has ever been a more beautiful combination of rose and vanilla, although CSP tried (and failed, in my humble opinion.)
The West Side bottle is beautiful and so is the juice contained within.
I have loved this scent since we all first sniffed it. FBW from the get-go. Can't wait until I get a bottle. I have such wonderful memories of that day.
cheers, sara
Got a chance to try WS at Saks- it is just fabulous. It is a great scent for the warmer months ahead. I hear Bond is working on some great holiday items- very excited.
I just bought my bottle today. Ah... I feel better now. :)
