Cargo Liquid Powder
When it comes to powders I prefer loose to pressed. I love the quality and how it stays fresh throughout the day. Unfortunately this preference comes with a price. It is a "disaster waiting to happen" when you lug your Caron tin or worse yet...try to carry your La Mer jar in your handbag. Spilling or breaking these pricey jars is not something I want to risk.
So I started looking for alternatives.
Cargo makes a loose powder with the convenience of a tube. It is very silky to the touch and gives an instant matte look. It is a natural looking finish that does not cake, turn orange or settle into any fine lines. It evened my skin tone and gave it a lovely sunkissed glow.
It has those magical light reflecting pigments(makeup pixies) that seem to trick everyone into thinking you are healthy, well rested and free of skin issues. The key ingredients are Retinyl Palmitate(form of vitamin A, a combo of retinol and palmitic acid=antioxidant and skin conditioner) and Silica(my friend silicone=helps with blendability, creasing, and lasting power).
I thought this would be similiar to Prescriptive's Magical Powder based on how it felt on my fingers. Instead of that unsettling wet feeling, you get a cashmere soft finish.
It feels amazing on.
It is available at Sephora and retails for $22.

That seems so counterintuitive...powder in a tube?! I'm going to have to check it out. Thanks for the heads up!
How do you apply it? With your fingers or do you bring a puff along?
I love this stuff. I got it a month or so ago at Sephora in a box set with some other things. I sometimes use my fingers but most of the time use a makeup sponge.
Christina: It is worth checking out. It feels great!
Anon: I use a sponge from Laura Mercier. It comes out like toothpaste...but feels dry.
It is freaky...in a good way.
Linda: Me too!
I love the way it feels on my skin. It has a very cashmere like finish. Super soft with no greasy-like residue. I am smitten.
i've been looking for something like this! just ordered it :) i hate carrying around powder compacts, they always seem to get broken and make a mess.
Stop making me want things.
Okay, wait. I think I'm being extra dense today, but I don't get it. So it comes out creamy, applies like a cream, but turns into a powder on your face? Or does it come out creamy, "crumble" into a powder, and then applies like a powder? Would you be able to use a conventional loose powder brush?
Clearly it is time to get a 2nd cup of coffee... :)
Thanks for the rec -- I really needed it! I was lugging it around my local Sephora trying to decide, and wasn't sure if it would deliver all it promised (you know, if it sounds too good...). So I put it down and said I'd check it out first. I'm going back for it. :)
