The power of Francois Nars
Some Vintage New York Times:
Kristen McMenamy's lack of eyebrows has raised a few in the fashion world. At the designer Anna Sui's fall fashion show this spring, Francois Nars, a makeup artist, was using concealer stick to cover up the eyebrows of most of the models. He convinced Ms. McMenamy, a model who is based in Paris, to go all the way. The no-eyebrow look of the 60's, with only the thinnest line penciled on, is making a comeback.
"Francois Nars was one of the ones who really instigated the whole thing," said Linda Wells, the editor in chief of Allure. "Now, he says that bushy eyebrows are passe."

I was in college when she shaved her eyebrows and chopped off her hair.
It kicked her modeling career into overdrive.
She went from beautiful to stunning in one swipe of the wax.
I had no idea that Nars was behind her look.
Of course I copied her look in 92...and it took years for my eyebrows to return to normal.
Sometimes I flirt with going thinner and getting a jazzy arch....but my eyebrow gal always nixes it.

OMG - I forgot all about Kristen McMenamy!
And Francois Nars is truly a genius. One of my all time favorites.
Wow I totally forgot about that. I could never go without my eyebrows...
I remember when the either no brow or pencil thin ones look was all the rage. Suddenly everywhere people were whispering about "who tweezed or shaved" at school.
I overtweezed and the hairs never came back.
