I finally got my July Lucky magazine after seeing it on the stands for a good two solid weeks.
As a subscription reader...this fires me up. This is a big pet peeve of mine.
Vanessa Minnillo graces the cover. The magazine is running a contest where they are giving away her outfit and makeup. The Flirt lip gloss in Nectar Fizz looks like a gorgeous summery nude.
It appears that Miss Minnillo has designed a makeup palette for Flirt. (See the picture on page 84)
I am envious. I dream of designing limited edition palettes, eye shadows and lipsticks. I would love to design nail polish colors. I would love to be the ytown Estee Lauder.
To enter the Lucky contest go to www.luckymag.com/deals.
There are great mentions of nail polish in this issue. On page 83 Vanessa mentions her favorite mix of Essie polishes. She layers Essie's Limo-Scene with Mademoiselle. This is a lovely combination.
They also feature a mustard yellow cropped jacket from Tulle on page 83.
I caved immediately.
Just a heads up...shipping is over $10 so the savings with the code is not much. I just could not pass it up since I regret letting the Piazza Yellow Cotton Jacket from J Crew slip through my fingers.
Page 87 features fruit punch nails. These are colors that are a mix of fuchsia, red and orange. The scream summer and look fabulous for a pedicure color.
The colors and brands featured are:
Essie's in Wife Goes On
Cornelia in Rosu
Creative Nail Design in Burn: This shade is gorgeous!
OPI in Red Hot Ayers
Rescue Beauty Lounge in Sheer Red
Tracy Reese for Sally Hansen in Flame.
I had no idea that designers are creating nail colors for companies. This is genius.
Can you imagine a limited edition OPI John Galliano collection? or Vivienne Westwood for Zoya? How about Rodarte for Lippmann? The possibilities make my heart race.
Page 91 features the blackest black mascaras. They neglected to include Shu or Blackout by Christian Dior. They promoted Besame Cosmetics Sculpture Lash Mascara and L'Oreal's Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black. I have tried neither but have heard wonderful things about Besame products.
Page 91 features a small grouping of summer fragrances. Matthew Williamson has released a sheer version of his signature scent. I have not tested this yet but I was not a fan of the original. His incense fragrance, however, was "off the hook" magnificent. I have tested L'Eau D'Issey Summer. It is fresh and green. Quite refreshing and charming.
Page 92 mentions Estee Lauder's Solid Perfume Pendant. This pretty globe on a chain houses the scent White Linen. I have rediscovered my love for the scent this summer. The parfum version is amazing.
Another nail polish mention is on page 92. This time it is for the spectacular Chanel Heatwave. This is my official pedi-color for summer.
Page 124 is a fashion spread that features a model that looks like Prince William's ex, Kate Middleton. I love the full copper skirt on page 124 and the bracelets on page 126. The crystal pieces are from Erickson Beamon and Isaac Manevitz.

The cool lippie gadget from Rimmel is on page 156. This is the lip gloss that has a built in LED light. It retails for $11 at Ulta and Target.

Preach it, sister, about subscriber's mags arriving weeks after stands have it. Drives me crazy and it happens to me with EVERY subscription I have (except Fast Company, I think...tho no surprise there). Especially since Lucky has the log on deals and sometimes I get the magazine the afternoon that the log on deal has taken place. Oooohhhh...fried!!! Anyways (loving John from Cincinatti), totally agree that Heatwave es la bomba for summer pedi!!! For my on-the-beach toes I'm thinking I'll go to to Fireball from Moonbathe for that metallic ray of light fabulosity. Ciao bella! Molly
i feel the same way about my dang Allure! It's almost gotten to a point where I would rather spend the extra money to have it early or I have to force myself to only look for and read Us Weekly while waiting at the grocery story/nail salon/etc. Obviously we know what is easier...
Right said Fred!!!
I agree, it is beyond annoying that you pay for a mag subscription for a magazine you like/love enough to subscribe to only to find it ridiculously late every month.
I have my self reading part of my Lucky mag almost every month because I just can't wait until it arrives weeks after it is on the newsstand.
Is Heatwave at stores yet? I can't find it on chanel.com...I must have it!!
Agreed. I can't stand when I see a mag on the newsstand and my copy has not arrived yet. Allure is one of the worst offenders.
Annie, your new yellow jacket is adorable!
Agree too. I get the mag late always it seems, major peeve. Vogue was like that too, really long after , I would gaze it on stands and wondert if mine was coming, I even emailed them once it took so long.
This is a great post. I need to get the magazine now. More importantly, I need a Firebox! That is a great gadget. I haven't had a casette playe in years, but I cannot part with my mix tapes either.
I was about to write Lucky a complaint letter about how late they were, when I finally got my copy yesterday. I also subscribed to Allure awhile back. After quite a bit of waiting, I was sent an issue that was 2 months old. Now I am still waiting for the current issue (and I guess the month in between). I also just now got their bill! I think I won't pay it and will go back to buying Allure on the news stand since apparently they are not very good about sending things. :(
GG: It fires me up to see the mags mocking me from the grocery aisles. It makes it not worth getting a subscription. There should be some type of perk.
Girl: Yep.
I should just read the issues at Borders over a coffee.
Anon: I have to force myself to stay away from Lucky and Vogue. It is hard to avoid them.
Anon: Have you tried Saks? Gloss.com?
Patti: I hope it fits well. It was a gamble.
BA: Vogue is the worst for me. I have to avoid Vogue everywhere including my nail techs.
Mel: I need and covet the firebox.
Carleen: You need to write Allure. That is unacceptable.
I am so on board with the subscription-lateness peeve. I can remember a time when it was just the opposite. I have never seen an explanation for this, it just started happening some years back. The worst offender by far: Conde Nast.
