Brushed With Greatness Project
My Favorite Brushes
by Melanie Parker
As a mineral makeup user, brushes have become an important part of my daily routine. Because I am prone to acne flair ups, I have found that washing my brushes frequently is also really important. Therefore, I stick to high quality brushes that wash well. For my money, the best brushes are by MAC and Bare Escentuals. My favorite face brush is the MAC Diana Ross 150SE. It's got a pink handle and matching pink bristles with a black ferrule. I have used this brush for 2 years and washed it at least every 2 weeks within that time with an antibacterial soap, and it has never lost a bristle or its shape. It still looks new.
Since I use Bare Escentuals make-up, I have acquired quite a collection of BE brushes. I like the kabuki brush and the concealer brush, but I adore the face, blush, and shadow brushes that came with the Pure Compliments kit that was recently featured on QVC. The brushes have the same great wear and functionality as the regular product line, but have a cute aqua green custom handle that is exclusive to the station.

Those are beautiful!
I love the Handy Buki brush by Bare Escentuals. It's a small version of the Nars (also Smashbox and Sephora) bronzer brushes, and I find it lots easier to use than the larger ones.
I would LOVE to have one of the brushes from the Diana Ross collection -- any of the items from her fab collection! I must have been on some weird beauty buying fast to have missed the fabulous Ms. Ross collection :/.
Totally agree. I have had a MAC lipstick brusch for maybe 15 years now and it is still as perfect as it was when I bought it. I had forgotten how much I loved this brush & now will check out MAC again. And I love the BE brushes as well.
Gablesgirl: I got the Diana Ross brush at the CCO (Cosmetics Center Outlet) and have since referred others to the brushes and they continue to get new stock. If you have access to an outlet makll, you can check there. They keep the MAC brushes behind the counter and you have to ask for them. They should have samples locked in a case on the floor, but if you don't see any pink ones, ask about it!
Thanks, Melanie, yes I do have a CCO within an hour's drive and I go often! That's how I decided to take Prescriptives brush for a test drive (and loved it btw). Thanks for helping me connect the dots on the Mac Diana Ross collection!
