Cult of Cherry

We pull out a jar of cherries. "Oh, no!" she moans. "Don´t pull out a cherry stem! Please don´t!" It is too late. We have placed a full jar of maraschino cherries before her and beg her to do what Audrey did to impress management and secure employment at One-Eyed-Jacks. We beg her to do the stem trick. "It´s too intimate," she says, in demure protest. The she lowers the boom: "You know what? You´re gonna be the first person I´ve told the truth to... I can´t do it. I´m telling everyone I can do it, because they´re just so disappointed if I can´t." Sensing our woe, she adds, "Well, I did get drunk one night and did it in a New York hotel bar."

Then we ask this: What does it mean when a girl knows how to knot a cherry stem in her mouth? "It means she´s a great kisser?" she says, knowing we both know better. (Sherilyn Fenn interview, Rolling Stone No 588, October 4th 1990, p.68-71, 170)

MAC's Cult Of Cherry collection will launch in September. Of course, this collection made me think of Sherilyn Fenn on Twin Peaks. You might remember the famous cherry scene and the dark almost sinister-like colors. You can almost hear the Angelo Badalamenti soundtrack. This collection looks fabulous with all the red and plum variations. Fall keeps getting better and better.

So strange...DH and I have been watching the Twin Peaks series on DVD the past week! Love it and this collection looks rather lovable as well.

I think I will need the Shadowly Lady quad. So I just picked up two Starflash shadows (Smoke & Diamonds) and Lotusland. What do you think of the shadows?

I'm so excited for this. The entire collection looks amazing. Russian Red has been the only red lipstick I've been able to pull off so far, but I can't wait to see what these look like on me. I need the quads for sure!

Ahh! Thanks for the Audrey Horne dancing video. It's remarcable how consistent Mr. Lynch in his aesthetics. The man clearly knows what he wants. The same spaced out dance plays prominently in his video for Gucci by Gucci, and he's used the same color palate in numerous creations including his ad for Opium from the '80s. I will now formally upgrade from consistent to classic. Actually, make that iconic.

Jamie: I read September but my MAC gals thought it was late August.

Julie: The shadows were AMAZING. I caved on Smoke & Diamonds along with Mink & Sable. Lotusland was lovely. One of our MAC gals created such a pretty eye with it.

I'm so excited about this collection, i love the lipglasses and mattene lipsticks proposed, the purple nail colour sounds great too. I guess i'll find a great alternative to my beloved Chanel Rouge Noir Hydrabase.

Annie, What did your MAC gal pair Lotusland with? I caved for it, but now I'm not sure what to do with it!!! I used a touch of it in my inner corner last night with a smokey eye, and I liked the effect, but I still need some more ideas!

I loved that series. Looking back, Sherilyn Fenn and Lara Flynn Boyle were both such beauties. I wish LFB hadn't ruined her face in recent years...

I thought for sure I was "safe" from financial ruin because I'm too shy to wear reds and vivid plums. Then I saw the Spiced Chocolate quad you posted. Aaakkk!!!!
