L'Oreal Eye Makeup Remover: Trying to find an Eye Makeup Remover to Love......
I have not had the best luck in eye makeup removers. Not one can manage to remove every trace of mascara, eyeliner and shadow. I wake up in the morning with smudges worthy of the hard living Amy Winehouse. I do not live hard and generally go to bed by 10:30pm.
So what gives?
This remover did not get everything off. I still had some morning smudges along with some leftover mascara chunks in my lashes. I am far from Tammy Baker in application. I wear an eye cocktail of eye primer by Too Faced, eye shadow or MAC pigment, liner and mascara. Nothing out of the ordinary or worthy of a Vegas showgirl. No matter how clean my eye area looks, there will be traces of residue in the morning. This annoys me to no end.
Even though the L'Oreal remover left some residue it did not leave my eyes dry or feeling like sand paper. It also was refreshing like it promises on the bottle. There was no greasy residue like Almay Moisturizing remover pads. Another bonus was the price and being located at my corner drugstore.
What do you think of this remover and do you have any recommendations for other products? Let us know in the comments.

I just started using Clinique's Take The Day Off and I really like it. It's gentle & my skin feels soft afterwards. I've tried a few products since I have sensitive eyes and Clinique is the best so far!
I love Kiehl's Supremely Gentle Eye Make-up Remover! I tried it after a recommendation from the lovely Elvira (Pink Sith-she did a review on her blog), and it's great! I have had bad experiences with drugstore brands either being too oily and irritating my eyes, or not removing all my eye makeup (and I don't even wear waterproof!), but the Kiehl's is totally not irritating, creamy, and does a good job of removing everything. And my eye area feels nice afterwards, not at all dry. HG for me!
L'Oreal makes another eye makeup remover called Gentle Waterproof Eye and Lip Makeup Remover. Whew, what a mouthful.
It looks like a salad dressing, and you shake it up to mix it together. It's got oil in it, but not at all greasy. I don't know how they do it, but this is the best I've tried that's drugstore cheap.
I've always been devoted to Neutrogena oil-free eye makeup remover. Don't knock the fact that it is convenience store brand - its the only one my friends and i will use. it had to be the liquid version thought - cvs is starting to sell a foam-pump version and it doesn't work as well.
It's not oily but I do recommend washing your face afterwards.
Lancome Bi-Facil! It's a bit pricey, but the large bottle lasts forever and it removes EVERYTHING while leaving my eyes & their surrounding skin super-soft.
I feel the exact same way as you do about this stuff!! No matter how clean my eye area would look before I went to bed, I would always wake up with mascara smudges. I have yet to find an eye makeup remover that works for me. I will be blog stalking you until you find one that works LOL! I hope it is soon!
Lancome BiFacil is the gold standard. at least to me. nothing I have ever tried works like that or is as gentle. You must have tried it though.
if not, check it out. I think I used this L'oreal one years ago and hated it.
I have been loving the Shu cleansing oil! It takes off face and eye makeup so I don't have to do 2 separate steps. You might like it!
Lancome Bi-Facil is my HG, although I stray when I'm looking to save money. I've also subbed Clinique Take the Day Off cleansing balm for my entire face, including my eye makeup. I haven't yet found a drugstore remover that I like, and I've tried quite a few. For the record, my eye cocktail=shiseido lash primer, 3-5 coats of Max Factor wp mascara, MAC fluidline or liquidlast, and eyeshadow.
Sorry it's not necessarily right for post but I just use Shu Uemura oil all over, it removes even waterproof stuff for me. I do use a soft natural sponge to remove it once i emulsified it. I generally love wash off stuff.
I have always LOVED Lancome's Bi-Facil, but have been trying the drugstore ones to save some money. I wasn't impressed with the L'Oreal one either. Neutrogena is next on the list!
I like Sephora's eye makeup remover the best. I've tried a ton of them, including the L'oreal one in this posting and none have worked as well as the Sephora one.
Back in the day I loved Garden Botanika's eye makeup remover-but they no longer make-up. The second best is by Rimmel which you can find at Walmart or Target for $5. It is the best! No greasy residue, and it takes it all off!
A thought on the morning after-residues: maybe what is appearing in the morning is sort of hiding under your eyelids and makes its way to the corners of your eyes as you sleep? In that case it wouldn't matter what product you use at night.
I always wake up with a little black in my eyes, even though they are totally clean after I've removed my makeup and washed my face in the evening.

Almay Moisturizing Eye Makeup Remover Liquid removes everything for me. I soak a cotton ball, leave it on my eye for a second or two and wipe away and it usually gets everything, waterproof mascara, eye shadow etc.
i am with you! i don't have good luck with most eye makeup remover from high end to low ones. just virtually nothing for me out there. but i finally settled with coconut oil and it is good as my eyes aren't iritated and it removes even hard waterproof eye makeup for me (even though some bits require soaking a few times.)
so i stick to that and haven't tried anything else.
Lancome Bi-Facil is the best on the market, as far as I'm concerned. I've used it for years. I try other makeup removers but always come back to it.
LUSH's Ultrabland will take off anything, and easily.
I'll second the comments that Lancome Bi-Facil is expensive, but well worth the money! Also, have you tried using q-tips to get the last traces of your liner off?
I've been happy with the Sephora brand make-up remover. It's not ridiculously expensive, it's not greasy, and so far it hasn't burned my eyes out!
I love the Boots 4-in-1 Quick Thinking Wipes. They never irritate my skin or eye area, and they are portable in a resealable pack! They're also budget-friendly :)
have you tried using extra virgin olive oil? not only is it good for your skin, especially the eye area, it takes off my eye make up very nicely.
I like the Almay makeup remover pads. As long as you are not using waterproof mascara, these are great! I put the pad on my eye and hold it there for about 5 seconds before removing and I find this makes a difference. I also love that I can get these at the wholesale club.

I agree, L'Oreal Eye Makeup Remover sucks. It never removes it all for me either. I have tried many, and the very very best for me has been Olay Daily Facials Express Wet Cleansing Cloths, the regular kind - not Sensitive Skin. I have found that the Sensitive Skin ones don't remove quite as well as the original. Very economical too, there are 30 wipes in a package and the most I have paid is $5.50 per package. $5.50 for a month's worth of makeup remover is cheap! These leave my face feeling soft and slightly moisturized.
I also use an oil bases cleanser to remove makeup, and then use my regular facial cleanser. Right now I am using Nude SKincare's cleansing oil, but Shu Uemera's is good as well. It removes EVERYTHING and I never have smudges in the morning. Anytime I have been forced to use regular eye makeup remover I always end up with smudges.
Do you hold the eyemakeup remover on long enough? I usually close my eyes and hold the cotton ball/pad over my eyelashes for a few seconds, then wiggle it off. That seems to work a lot better than just wiping- I think it lets the remover really break down the mascara. I've heard good things for Johnson's sensitive skin baby wipes, but I couldn't tell you if they would work on eye makeup. I think they're more of an all-over makeup remover. But at $5 for a massive box, could be worth a try. I don't have any other suggestions- my current remover sucks so keep us filled in if you find anything.
The Body Shop's Camomile Gentle Eye Make-up Remover. I've been using it for the longest. It comes in an 8.4 oz size at a reasonable price. It's non-greasy.

ALso, because I have a very dry skin and live in the cold Netherlands, baby oil and Nivea Visage cleansing pads for sensitive skin work like magic for me.
I have used The Body Shop's Chamomile Eye Makeup Remover for years, and I think it's the best. It doesn't have any perfumes or dyes and the bottle lasts forever. I also really love the Boots Quick Thinking Makeup Remover Wipes from Target. They're great for travel and/or touch-ups. I especially like to use them before and after a shower to make sure I've removed every last trace of makeup.
This is what I buy when I run out of my Lancome Bi-Facil and need to save money. It is the only drugstore brand I've found that doesn't sting my eyes and isn't too greasy.
I've tried so many and the one that works the best, even on the heartiest mascara and eyeliner is Almay moisturizing remover pads. The oil-based solution is so gentle and never irritates my eyes (and I wear contacts, too).
Shu Uemura cleansing oil fresh, hands down. I've tried everything...
I've been using Shu Uemura's cleansing oil and it takes everything off! A few of the ladies here have also mentioned Clinique's Take the Day Off and that is great also.
I really like the L'Oreal( but I sometimes get the drugstore "compare to" kind, it works just as well). I like the rose aroma and it works very well, except for the waterproof eyeliner I sometimes use - which happens to be L'Oreal HIP! I don't usually wear mascara so most eye makeup remover works fine for me anyway.
Another vote for Clinique Take the Day Off - my pillows have never looked cleaner in the morning!

I'm currently using The Body Shop's Camomile Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover (http://tinyurl.com/639vyl) and I'm pretty much in love. Gets everything off easily (and with minimal cotton balls) and doesn't leave my skin greasy (leaves my eyes/skin feeling so soft!).

im using those gel mascara which is a real b*tch to take off, even with shu's oil,...but eye q's are really good!
I use the Mary Kay eye makeup remover. It has never left anything on my eyes and there have been no traces of makeup in the mornings.
I have actually been testing eye makeup removers myself lately - I get sick of not being able to get that last little bit of liner off. You know - the bits that settle in between your eyelashes? Not even Lancome Bifacil can get rid of it. I don't apply liner like a showgirl, either, Annie! Let us know what you come up with! :)
I use Baby Oil. I can not believe the hype in make-up remover. Baby oil is cheap and always does the job!
I find that eye makeup removers that contain oil or "oil-like" ingredients work best for me to help break up the waxes and pigments. It also helps when I leave the cotton pad on my eyes for 10-15 seconds before to really allow the oils to work.
My favorite has been the Lancome Bi-Facil makeup remover,, I think it's pretty great. Sephora's makeup remover would have to be the runner-up - it's less greasy, but it also doesn't work as well on waterproof makeup. I'm using Neutrogena (the liquid kind) right now, and it's not bad either, although it's a little oily, far oilier than Lancome but it does the job without irritation. I have to say I HATE the Body Shop's camomile eye make up remover because every time I try to use it it burns my eyes! Stinging, red mess. I guess it's not for people with sensitive eyes/skin.
I use olive oil. its gentle on eyes and conditions eyelashes.

Try using a cleansing oil. I use Shu Balancing and it removes every bit of liner and mascara. It removes makeup and cleanses in one step. I love it!
If no one has mentioned yet, I've had some luck with Caudalie's Cleansing water. A little tacky afterward but if you cleanse again or put moisturizer on it's not a problem. Thanks for the post and good luck:)

I use Clarins eye makeup remover. I wear contacts and it works extremely well, quickly removing all mascara and does not leave any residue, like Lancome's Bi-Facil.
I used to use the L'oreal before my local Target was out of it and I had to get the Rimmel in place of it. I have to say that I really like the Rimmel! Give it a try if you haven't already.
Bioderma Sensibio! SERIOUSLY works perfectly, it's a non-oily, watery product. I can't say anything else - try and you'll see! (see no more mascara on your face :P)
I bought this and hated it. I could've done better with just water.
My eye doctor recommended I use Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo to clean my eyelashes to keep the natural oils from causing chalazion (hard cysts under the eyelid). I have been using it ever since and find it to be a really great eye-makeup remover.
Nars for a great remover (oil-based). Bliss for the cool refreshing experience of it, and no residue.
I used to love Lancome's Bi-Facil but $26 is insane. I then switched to this one that Pond's made that I swear must have been almost the exact same formulation as Bi-Facil but was only $6. Now I can't find that one, so I go with the Shu cleansing oil, which I adore and will use until the day I die.

I have to say that this eye makeup remover does what it claims, although it does leave a little oily residue on your eyes, it still works very nicely, it took me seriously, like 3 swipes to clean my eyes completely, it's awesome!
Neutrogena oil-free eye makeup remover is a DEFINITE buy. It removes everything, including the MAC fluidline eyeliner which is pretty tough to get off once it sets. And the price for the product is definitely affordable and easy to use.
