Day 8: You Never Forget Your Very First Lippie..........
Well, I never thought I would make it here today. I would make a great class president because I promise to put two new pop machines in the cafeteria, and I'm also gonna get a glitter Bonne Bell dispenser for all the girls' bathrooms. Oh, and we're gonna get new cheerleading uniforms. Anyway, I think I'd be a great class president.

(Quote from Summer in Napoleon Dynamite)
Every beauty addict or junkie remembers their very first lipstick or lip gloss. That first lippie was often a step toward being a glamourous teenager or young adult. My first lip product was Bonne Bell Lip Smacker in Strawberry. This company was originally based in Cleveland, Ohio before moving to Australia. The company began with producing a camphor astringent called 10-0-6 lotion. During the 1970's they developed a lip gloss called Lip Smackers. Every self respecting girl carried a tube of this in her purse. Today Bonne Bell have expanded their empire to include glosses with various shimmer formulas to high shine. The lip smackers are still produced and come in flavors such as cotton candy, pink lemonade and bubble gum. Bonne Bell also produces Lip Smackers with SPF 15.
You can find Bonne Bell products at your local drugstore.
They retail for $1.75.

Oh man, what memories. My first one was one of the HUGE ones. Not the little ones they selln now. It was Chocolate/Cherry Flavored and I thought I was "it". I also was a loyal 10-06 girl all through college. Does anyone also remember the cheek gel they sold??
My first one was a big fat Bonnie Bell in Raspberry. I hated Raspberry! I received it as a favor at a friend's birthday party in 5th grade. But then I moved on to better flavors like Dr. Pepper and Bubble Gum. In 6th grade, my friend Lisa and I went "into business" together and tore pieces of ruled notebook paper into squares and smeared them with Bonnie Bell, and tried to sell them to our classmates as chewing gum.
I found a shimmery, bubble-gum pink Bonnie Bell lipgloss that tasted like CUPCAKES a few years ago at Target. It was secretly delicious!
I was faithful to the 10-0-6 face soap and was so sad when it was discontinued.
My first lippie was one of the fat Bubblegum Lip Smackers! I remember debating over whether to get it or the rollerball kissing potion in CVS.
ha! i bought one again a few months ago just because it reminded me of my childhood, and today since I am wearing heavy eye make up to work I wanted nude lips, so I went through my lipstick collection and saw my strawberry lipsmacker and thought, why not? so there it is. lipsmacker day.
I was at CVS recently and saw that Bonne Bell products were buy one, get one half off, so I picked up the Dr. Pepper Lip Smacker and Vanilla gloss, both of which I LOVED back in the day.
I also remember the giant Smackers. I think I got those at JCPenney.
I had PEACH in that big, honkin' tube. Can still remember the scent and taste. I also remember the Dr. Pepper...
I got my first lipstick (I thought gloss was unsophisticated) at the age of 12, the same Christmas that I got a Rubik's Cube. That was in 1970 and the lipstick was a frosty pink from Revlon. I didn't look nearl so glam as I supposed. I wasn't as suddenly beautiful as I had imagined I would be; this was the same disappointment I'd later experience when I got contact lenses.
I still recall the scent of the lipstick; it was almost peachy. The color washed me out and I felt silly wearing it, as silly as I did wearing white gloves to formal dances where I sat, glowering, on the sidelines.
Note to fatbottmdgrl: I do indeed remember that Bonne Bell cheek gel. It was a red stain and I wore it throughout high school. Every Christmas I would get the BB tube that contained 10-0-6, the cheek gel, the bronzer gel with gold flecks that never did more than make one's face slightly yellow, and the Lipsmackers I never used.
i had the Dr. Pepper and I loved it!!! what great memories. Also, fatbottmdgrl, i used to use the cheek gel!! Loved the smell!
This brings back great make up memories! Ultima II makeup, Charlie makeup, Charles of the Ritz, Helena B
Borghese, etc!!!
thanks for making my day! I just bought a new Clinique Superbalm! So glossy and gorgeous!
I used to have strawberry & root beer Bonne Bell in the large ass size on a string around my neck. My first boyfriend was partial to root beer.
I loved - I think it was called - Maybelline Kissing Slicks and also, all through high school I loved an Avon lip pencil - the color was "Candied Clove" and it was the prettiest color ever - I would lvoe to have another, even now.
I never had any of LipSmakers...I grew up in rural South Carolina in the 80s and although I would see them in the drugstore...I rather buy a Vogue,Teen, or Sassy magazine with my allowance and records at the music store in town...lol!
But when I was in the 9th grade my church secretary bought me for Christmas Fashion Fair Sassy Plum lipstick. I wore that all through high school til I got to college and that whole dark lip came popular in the early mid nineties..
My first 'real' lipstick was Clinique's Mauve Crystal, silver ribbed tube, and I was about 12 years old. Man, I was so proud of that lipstick. I went through a lot of them!
Before that I had others: hand-me-downs--a 2-shade lipstick compact from an aunt, my kissing potion (first thing I remember: slimy! and no wanted to kiss me anyway), a wet n' wild pearlized pink lipstick...
I just thought about roller skating because of this thread...
I had the Kissing Potion roller ball in a flavor that tasted like Juicy Fruit gum. It leaked all over the place and made a huge mess, but I thought it was cool! I like the Lip Smackers in the Orange Krush flavor, too. I have to confess, I am 40, and still keep a tube of Lip Smackers Strawberry Banana in my purse as my favorite lip balm...
I actually can't remember my first lipstick! My mom used to give me the green freebie ones from the Clinique bonuses, so I must have amassed a collection of 20 or 30 tubes.
I definitely remember everyone having Lip Smackers in elementary school though. Also some cookie dough flavored thing from Bath & Body Works.
Mine was strawberry too, but OH how I remember 10-0-6!! I got a huge bottle for X-mas every year from my sister, and it was opened packaged to look like a Santa Claus.
Mine was a giant root beer smacker! Loved it. It had tiny tan shimmers in it. The scent and flavor were total root beer. Kissing Potion was also bit at this time.
oh no! I think Susanna Mars accidentally made herself ten years older than she is--the rubik's cube is from 1980.
but back to lippies, my girlfriends that I have known since elementary school and I still include a Lipsmacker with the Christmas presents we give to each other.
SUSAN! KISSING POTION! OMG. YES! Bubblegum flavored, and strawberry. Man. I'd forgotten what my first one was until you jogged my memory. Ahh, memories.
just like susana, my very first lipstick was one of those clinique bonus lipsticks in the green tubes. in tenderheart! which is basically, the color of my lips. haha. it didn't really show, i think thats why my mom gave it to me. but i thought it was awesome.
my first lip balm was those waxy avon ones that came in 4 fruit flavors.
Lip Smackers in Strawberry and Dr. Pepper, of course! Later my first real lipstick was Clinique's Black Honey. You have done a GREAT job with this 40 Days so far. And I didn't think it could get any better over the earlier ones.
I was 13, lived out of the US (DoS dad) and it was Revlon Candied Violet. It was the only "teenager" appropriate lippie the embassy store carried. We were living in SE Asia at the time.
When I look at photos now, the lippie made my mouth disappear it was so pale. I had a permatan. Add a babydoll dress, beige fishnets, maryjane flat shoes, sun-bleached hair--it was 1970--OMG, what a horror show. I thought I looked GREAT, lol!tun
Lip Smackers sponge-on gloss in Pink Lemonade. My babysitter used it when I was about 8 years old, and so inspired, I insisted that my mom get me some, too. Shortly after I started a rather extensive lip gloss collection that included Hershey's Chocolate chapstick from Claire's. I was a woman obsessed.
Maybelline Strawberry Kissing Potion 5th Grade, got it in the Santa Swap. Mom was worried because lip stuff was verboeten, but as Mrs. C told her, "well, at the rate she's going, it'll be gone before Christmas". (I apparently put it on every five minutes at my babysitters).
I remember Lip Smackers and the fat lip smackers.
First lipstick - Christian Dior Addict in Rose Scenario! It was the year I decided that I will finally wear make up. Couldn't have thought of a better entrance. I'm still a Dior girl at heart and their lip products are among my very favourites.

Dr. Pepper Lip Smacker was my first lippie love; at my 12th birthday party I made sure to include Dr. Pepper and Bubblegum Lip Smackers in the favor bags.
I'm 22 now and although I tend to reach for my Lipstick Queen Medieval a little more often, I still always have a tube of it in my purse. And now that I've found out that Vermont Country Store carries Dr. Pepper Lip Smackers in the original BIG size, I'm set for a while yet! :-)
I had Tinkerbell rollerball gloss! It had stars all over the tube!
I am showing my age here - I had one that I still miss after all these years & I wish they still made it, because I would probably wear it every day - Helena Rubenstein Apple Polish lip gloss. It was slick and not sticky and the perfect shade of red. I have never found anything quite like it since.
My first was Kissing Potion in BubbleGum. If I could still get my hands on it, I would!
I had the A&W root beer balm stick ;) I loved that stuff! The sheerest brown on my lips, and the smell of root beer all day.
My first real lipstick was a grand failure. Max Factor Cotton Candy - a glittery, bright pink that made me look dreadful. The next one was Almay's Mauved, which I still think is pretty.
Oh... My first one's a gift from mom. Estee Lauder's Snapdragon. It's a brown pink lipstick. I can't remember the formula though. Very pretty. So funny I learn how to wear lipstick before getting to know any tinted lip balm or lip gloss although later I'm a lip gloss wearing kinda girl. :)
I had a lipstick when I was in junior high, 1970-1972 that was very different. Mine was in a white tube with a black dome shape at the top. It didn't have a removeable lid, though. When you twisted the tube, the black dome (in two pieces) retracted and the lipstick came out. I can't for the life of me remember the name or brand of this lipstick! Can anyone help?
