The Fabric Of Our Life

Last week, Bergdorf Goodman tweeted about some Lanvin pencils on the 7th floor of the store.

This started an avalanche of lemmings that slowly escalated on the web. Lanvin pencils and notebooks were swooned and gushed over. That fateful day everyone fell in love with a small luxury that was romantic and affordable. We were not clamoring over a shoe or a handbag.
We coveted a lead pencil.

Chanel also has that lovely habit of making a mundane product into a little piece of luxury. Chanel Le Coton is a limited edition set of cotton pads.

That's right.
Cotton pads.

You might dismiss this as just plain silly. You might think that your bag of 200 cotton balls works just fine.

Remember the first time you experienced a "high thread count" bed sheet set? The whispery softness made you wonder how you survived all those years with anything less than a 500 thread count. Suddenly, your sheets feel like sandpaper and you find yourself seeking counts higher than 1000. You start paying attention to white sales. You can never go back to just plain old sheets from Target. You have seen the light. You have tasted just a sampling of higher end linens. Pratesi just might be worth lemming.

Le Coton will change how you look at a cotton ball. The 3 layer pads are made with selected cotton flowers from Australia and Egypt. The finely crafted pads are stamped with the trademarked interlocking C's.
No surprises there.

The outside layers in direct contact with the skin are made with extremely thin, long texturized Egyptian cotton so delicate that it can only be picked by hand, while the middle layer consists of elastic cotton from Australia with excellent absorption capacity.

Le Coton feels like a cloud. I am not waxing poetic here. The softness is jarring enough to make you jump. It was wicked with absorption. No toner product was wasted. That alone makes these cotton pads worth the coin. The pad was sturdy for such a delicate texture. It did not break apart or shed fibers.

It retails for $20.00 for 100 pads per box. Chanel Le Coton is available at Neiman Marcus, Chanel boutiques and chanel.com in June 2010.

But how could you bring yourself to actually use them :) Well I'll use some but I know I'll stash many as well. Perhaps frame one . I saved a Chanel labeled handy wipe from the counter as it is .
