I have been on a makeup kick lately. I am on various quests for "holy grail" foundations, glosses, mascara ,shimmer powders and makeup brushes. The last time I was in NYC I swooned over a red Shu Uemura powder brush. Everything else was nothing compared to this lush staggering brush. I denied myself the brush and have regretted it ever since. It was "the Birkin" of brushes. The only thing I purchased during that NYC trip was Shu Uemura's facial powder in ivory. I was smitten based on its lovely color and spectacular shimmer. I have to apply it with a light hand or I look ghostly ill. During the last sniffa I purchased a Chantecaille foundation, loose powder and a foundation/coverage stick. All three pieces set me back a lot of lolly. I can not stand the powder and have not touched the foundation. I thought they would be my holy grail makeup but they were no match for Laura Mercier oil free foundation in ivory. This foundation is amazing and worth the $38 price tag. Beautiful coverage and excellent staying power. It runs rings around Giorgio Armani Luminous silk foundation #4 makeup. It is chalky and loves to make itself at home in every fine line on your face. Chantecaille and Armani were expensive makeup blunders for me. These last few months I have been focusing on eyeshadows. My favorites are from the Nars line. The sleeper hit of the entire line is thunderball. It is a fab dark teal blue color. It is highly pigmented and is just lovely on the lids. The color is great for a modern smokey eye. I was sold on this one when the Barneys girl stated simply "Everyone needs thunderball in their life".

Oh, how I wanted to love the Chantecaille foundations, but I tried them in the store and me no likey. Armani is pretty good, but it does not deserve the uber-raves. Shu Uemura's waterbased is my newest love! A must-try the next time we are at a Shu counter.
I agree!
I plan to really dive into the entire Shu Uemura line! I might "cave" on the red brush if it is in the $50 range. If it is more...I will have to pass.
Annie, I don't think those blushes were that expensive! Maybe just half that price. Shu does have a website so you can go check things out there to get an idea of the choices and prices, and start making a list of things to try! Don't forget that Tak has Shu as well as Barney's!
Oh, you have me SO longing for NY!
I used to love, love, love that Chantecaille foundation, but the love affair is over and now I'm in love with the Becca. Not the stick -- too heavy for every day -- but the luminous skin color. It's lightweight, SPF 20, and has that light-reflector stuff in it that gives you that radiant glowy hide-the-fine-lines-and-pores look. It's so good I don't even use moisturizer any more. It's skin care AND foundation. Love, love, love. Oh yes, and the red powder brush at Shu is a stunner. I didn't find it worked any better than my Sephora brush, but it certainly was a looker.
That Becca was your holy grail find. That color match was fantastic. It gave you such a flawless finish. Your HG find gives me hope that there is a foundation waiting for me....
The brush was a looker. I know that it would be a insane purchase but it is so mouthwatering. It would make putting on powder a more glam act!

You said brush. I said blush.
Yes, Annie, their brushes are expensive, but they last forever and wash beautifully.
And now we must investigate Becca!
The brush is $45 on the Shu Uemura website. Caution, that site is addictive and the photos are beautiful!
