Mother's Day Fragrance Musings:
I grew up surrounded by Estee Lauder junkies. My mother and Aunt Frances loved Lauder fragrances and skincare. My mother's holy grail fragrance is Knowing. There is no other. I tempt her with Bonds and other niches but she will not budge. It is her holy grail and that is final.
My Estee HG was a toss up between Private Collection(this is quite possibly the best green fragrance ever produced) and CP Perfectionist(skincare). That was until yesterday when I tested Pure White Linen.
This is an updated version of the Lauder classic. It shares the original's main notes of aldehydes, rose and crisp greens but stirs in fruits such as grapefruit, italian mandarin, raspberry, pear and granny smith apple. These additions make the scent effervescent and bright. The fragrance also has my beloved note of cardamon along with white ginger, iced rose tea (finally! Someone has heard my pleas concerning rose tea scents. Make more of them!), white freesia, red tulips, honeysuckle, gardenia petals, jasmine, iris, osmanthus and a touch of tuberose. This is a lovely mix for the mid notes. The drydown consists of white cedarwood, patchouli and white heliotrope. I have been falling under the spell of heliotrope. I find myself loving anything with the note.
This is a perfect spring fragrance. Just lovely and feminine.
It would make a great Mother's Day gift....if you do not snag it first or pretend to lose it so you can keep it.

I also come from a family of Lauder junkies: My mom wore Private Collection, my grandmother wore Youth Dew, my stepmother wore Knowing (her HG, too). For me, it was Beautiful first, and then Spellbound, although it seems something has changed because they turn on me now. I couldn't wear the original White Linen either, but the new one sounds intriguing. I must sniff! Thanks for sharing. Your blog is so much fun.
I am a huge HUGE Lauder fan! I wear Beyond Paradise which I loved from the very first sniff at Saks. I wore Private Collection for years and I wish (are you listening, Lauder?) I could find that exquisite dusting powder again. It was softly scented and beautifully sparkling. I love Beautiful and I wear that often. And I love Pleasures in its original form and all the variations too.
I bought Cinnabar one year for my dear Grandma for Mothers' Day. She fell in love instantly. I would buy her a new spray and the matching body powder every year after that. She wore it until she passed away at the age of 100 and two days. Even when she couldn't reach for the bottle herself, she would ask me to get the bottle from her dresser and spray her wrists. I still have the fondest memories of sharing Cinnabar with my Grandma.
Then there are the compacts. Those gorgeous little miniatures with their precious contents, the solid scents and the powders too. I'm a novice collector of the Lauder compacts and I have given away dozens of them as gifts. The Erte are my favorites of the powders, and my Statue Of Liberty solid perfume is one of my best treasures.
Oh, and then there is Perfectionist CP+. My story of how I came to love this product is legendary! I was at a local store, looking for a counter where I could pay my bill, and I went to the Lauder counter. While the SA was ringing up my payment, I spotted the pretty lavender pump and applied a dab to my left hand. I smoothed it on and I was absolutely stunned. The difference in my two hands was nothing short of remarkable. I bought a bottle instantly and have used it ever since. I think I'm on my 5th bottle now. The effect of Perfectionist on my complexion is the best of any skincare product I've ever used.
So that is my Lauder love affair, and I know it will continue always!
Ooh, I need to try this. Cardamom! I guess my HG Lauder scent is White Linen Breeze. You really made me excited about the Pure version, thank you!
The only Lauder fragrance I am in love with is the old school Youth Dew Bath Oil. I wish I could say I love Youth Dew Amber Nude because I love to support my husband Dear Tom, but alas I do not love it.
I used to love Beautiful and Pleasures back in the 90's. But I loved Calvin Klein Escape then too
SKREEEEEE
I love Aerin Lauder. She is one of my style icons.
xo
Thanks for the tip about Pure White Linen. I have heard the original White Linen compared to my old fave Chanel No. 22 and I will definitely try this new-made one.
I'm also a huge fan of Private Collection, JHL by Aramis, and I do think Pleasures is a beautiful fragrance...
Hi Annie! I"m leaving my Mother's day comment here because I'm going away for the day.
Have a great day.
xoxo
I loved Youth Dew from the moment I smelled it! The fragrance is wonderful and lasts, and lasts, and ....alas, I realized I smelled like my mother! In a moment of desperation and horror by realizing I was turning into mom, I packed it up and mailed it to her. A week later, I was back at the EL counter buying another bottle for moi. Mom knew what she was doing after all!
Hi Anon! That is a cute story. There is a legend about Youth Dew, that Estee herself wanted to be able to sell this scent in stores and was turned down. She "accidentally" spilled it in the store and the women came running and wanted it! So that store decided to give her a chance. It was Saks. Since that day, Lauder always gives Saks the launch for all their products. I have read this in a book about Estee Lauder! I love her moxie.
I love Pleasures, but only on other people. On me, the patchouli note does strange things and the perfume starts to go all stingy. Alas!
I agree that Perfectioniste is amazing, and I think I'm developing an unhealthy love of Estee's glosses. (Overpriced, but strangely addictive!)
But Pure White Linen sounds delicious! Thanks for the review, and for taking part in Benevolent Blogging! I think it's great what you guys are doing!!
I have loved Beyond Paradise for years and just recently, I discovered Youth Dew. I actually went into the store to buy the updated 'Amber Nude' but I liked Youth Dew much better! I really wanted to like the new one, but alas.....Other Estee products I love are the lipsticks....love the packaging, the colours, and the fragrance of figs. Mmmmm...
