Rock the Gloss Challenge for September 6th 2006: photo: gettyimages

Estee Lauder always wrote of always making a color do something. She usually added a verb to describe a color, or put it at some location where it assumed an activity----like "Cinema Pink". "Flirtation Pink" was a top Lauder seller----and a case in point of color in action,or getting some action. revlon was credited early on with not only giving color action, but powers that were deadly or godlike, that made everyone get out ofthe way while the color did its action. "Pink Lightning","Fatal Apple", "Paint the Town Pink", "Wheres the Fire?", and "Rosy Future", are among Revlon's greatest hits of lipstick names. Elizabeth Arden for years created every possible color of pink. Pink was her trademark, and by giving anything with a pink assocation, it suddenly became Ardenized. Chanel's Hydrabase lipstick ad reads "Treat your lips to the color nature did not dare to give them." Lipstick by Jessica Pallingston

What is your lippie today and tell me your favorite lipstick names. My lippie is a blue red from Chantecaille. It is called Cerise. The purchase was inspired by the stunning picture of Scarlett. Scroll down to see the picture.

Morning, Annie! My lips are autumnal today in Chanel Soft Mink. Lipstick names can be pretty hilarious. I remember when I was in junior high my first lipsticks were Revlon's Toast of the Town and Wine With Everything (or something like that). They were names for a glamorous city life, no?

Hello! MAC Sundressing today, a frosty wine color from one of their collections this past summer that'll actually make the transition into fall.

Did I mention that I'm ready for fall? ;-)

The cheap stuff today...it's called no lipstick at all....not good. I feel unfinished...but painting furniture doesn't require a lippie.

I've gotta admit....I'm a sucker for listicks/lipglosses with cute names. There's nowhere near enough room here to list my favorite. I've been known to recklessly purchase anything with a reference to Breakfast at Tiffany's, my favorite songs, and even my favorite actresses. I picked up Gilda by NARS the other day (because Gilda Radner was such an cool person), and I love it!

At the moment I've smudged a little Toasted Rose by Clinique and topped it with a bit of Rosebud Salve. It looks as if this is the color my lips should be, but aren't! Actually they are pretty colorless! Thank heavens for lip color!

:)

I wore a happy pink twinset today, so my lippy was MAC Scanty with Diorkiss Lychee Rose on top- a nice bright bubblegummy pink!

I'm wearing NARS lipgloss in Gothika. As for favorite lipstick names, I love the old MAC lipstick named Spanish Fly.

Hi!

I'm wearing Mac Boubon today, a muted coral/pinky red.

Arbonne has a name I love. It's 14kt Siren. It is a coral nude with a metalic gold shimmer. The lipstick itself is beautiful, coral swirled with gold.

Hi,

My choice today was a Lancome called Brun Rose, very subtle and wearable.

Favorite name? So many! One must be an old classic Revlon called Red Pagoda - a perfect red if there ever was one.
