Remember when I said that I was never going to talk about black nail polish again?
Well...I fibbed.
These hands belong to Krakow. She is a dear MUA/Cleveland friend. One hand has the infamous Chanel Black Satin on it and the other is OPI's Black Onyx(edited: Thanks Melanie!). It is hard to tell the difference.
But there is a difference.
Everyone actually preferred the OPI polish...including the Chanel staff.
In case anyone was wondering...I never did get that call from my local Chanel counter.

Oh yeah, I was at the drugstore and there only brand that had a black nailpolish was Rimmel, and the name of the polish? Yup, you guessed it: Black Satin.
So, um, what's the difference?
(Undertone? Opacity? Shine? Shimmer?)
I am wearing Essie's Wicked on my nails this week. Someone who stopped over yesterday asked me in a demeaning way - "What did you do, paint your nails black?". I tried to explain how it the most popular and desired nail right now. And she promptly told me that I should stick with what works best for me and to stay away from trends.
Oh - what a Bi***!
Well I guess I'm just a label whore, I waited on the list and picked up my bottle of Chanel's black satin on Friday, and promptly got a manicure on Saturday. As much as I love that I have the "must-have" color, I must say, I don't like the consistency of the polish. Is it just me, or has anyone else had this same issue? I picked up pink satin on Sunday, so I'll see if it's just the black satin or their nail polish overall.
Have you tried MAC's Nocturnelle nail polish? It's black as well and it's oh so shiny and has lasted for a lot longer than I expected without it chipping.
Re: The picture. Is the black satin on the right? Thanks! :)
A, I am not a big Chanel fan, and true black polish is really not my thing. I like it with just a hint of black, a la LPAD. However, if the OPI one comes in to my local beauty supply, I will probably purchase it for "historical purposes," lol!

Griffie: Your right!
I wrote this post before I left for work. I need to slow down...and edit before I publish.
No boots for me. In fact...I want all boots to die a horrible death. I hate boots. Damn Bastards.
Henna: LOL! I heard about that. I wonder how it compares.
Anyone know?
tbone: OPI has better shine. I love the blue undertones of the Chanel but the OPI was richer in pigment. I wish I could have captured the difference on camera. I realize...that my camera sucks...and I need a better one.
Teri: That person was rude. I have one friend who said that black polish looks like a corpse's hands. Sometimes friends opinions...need to be ignored.
anon: I heard there are application/pigment issues. I think all Chanel polishes need to be applied more than 2 layers.
anon2: No. I saw it and was not blown away. I did not try it on a nail though. Is it a straight black color or is it pearlized?
Melanie: I have never noticed that about Zoya. Lately I have been sticking with OPI and Essie. Creative has also done very well for my nails.
I noticed L was right this morning too. I had no access to the blog from work until mid afternoon.
Violet: It is very good. Worth a purchase for historic purposes or Ebay. )))V(((
anon: I think Chanel was on the right. I will ask Krakow and see if she remembers.
I love the fact that the less expensive Opi looks better! I always find Chanel nail polish to be a bit too clumpy for me, Opi is much more fluid and easier to apply.
Where can I find OPI's Black Onyx in Manhattan?
Thanks,
Looking
Where can I find Black Onyx from OPI in Manhattan?
fighting mad mary: OPI polishes are like the cadillacs of nail polishes. Great pigment, staying power, easy application and incredible shine!
They are hard to beat.
Anon: I think your best bet is a discount beauty store. I know Chicago has some great ones. I am "guessing" that there are some hidden gems in the big apple. Hopefully some NYC gals can answer this question.
