Linda Cantello, creative director of YSL Beaute, is making her first personal appearance in the US since joining YSL. Ms Cantello will be holding a master class in the morning for 25 lucky ladies and overseeing makeup applications on the beauty floor of the mothership aka Bergdorf Goodman. I love beauty events of any kind but this one promises to be special. YSL has had an amazing year under her helm. I would beg, borrow or steal to have her instruct me on the perfect smokey eye or dish about her magnificent golden glosses.
The deets:
When: November 30th
Where: My favorite place in the world...Bergdorf Goodman
Master Class: The cost is a $250 pre-pay that is redeemable in product as well as a special gift bag that includes a full size powder brush , gold YSL cosmetic bag, half size Toning and Cleansing water and half size Self-Foaming cleanser.
I love when the fee is given back to you in product.
The class will be from 9-10am with a light breakfast of fruit and pastries. Ms Cantello will discuss YSL's top products and new looks.
Makeovers: They will start at 11am on the beauty floor and there is no fee. Ms Cantello will be walking the floor and doing consultations with the BG YSL team. One MUA friend did this type of event with Bobbi Brown and loved the experience. Bobbi gave her a wonderful compliment and would throw out helpful hints to everyone. There was no pressure to buy but it is an unspoken rule that you purchase three items when having a makeover. I generally get caught up in the moment and buy way more...but thats just me.
If you purchase over $150 there is a gift that includes a black makeup bag , mirror, delux Self-Foaming Cleanser, and Mini-Rouge Pur #34.
If you would like to attend please call Deborah at Bergdorf Goodman 212-872-8654. If she is not there her staff can take your information.
I would tell you to say that Blogdorf Goodman sent you...but I am always worried that the Bergdorf Goodman legal team might start paying attention to me.
I love my blog name and would hate to give it up.

YSL's new foundation with the brush applicator is just fabulous, I was amazed at the perfect coverage it gives but while looking completely natural. And the packaging is perfect for on the go! I'm surprised none of the beauty bloggers has talked about this, I saw it a while ago on the NYT.
Why is the unwritten rule 3 items? What if you didn't like the makeover? Just curious what to do in those situations.
Excuse me? Unspoken rule?! Are ya kiddin me? I can count on one hand the number of good makeovers I have had that were worth me even buying anyhing so it goes without saying that I hardly ever buy things when I have a makeover. Plus, so much is in seeing how well the make-up wears on my face. I have oily skin and have no patience for a foundation that leaves me looking like an oil slick by the time I have left the store or a blush that fades. I can hardly judge right there on the spot and so I go back and buy things if I really want them later. I think that to expect people to buy 3 things just because you gave them a makeover is a little ridiculous. Plus, I find that the people doing makeovers usually use way more products than I would normally use just because they are trying to sell me on everything. There is no need. And I encourage other consumers not to be bullied into buying things when they are not 100% satisfied with the makeover or the person doing the sales. That being said, I have gotten the best makeover ever by Bobbi Brown and even then, they were happy to do it, weren't bitchy when i didn't get anything, but ever so gracious when i came back and bought things that had been recommended to me by them. :)
Anon: I could not tell you why. It just is.
It is a free service but it is common courtesy to make a purchase. You can not have a makeup artist put a full face on you...and then only purchase a lipstick.
As for not liking the makeover...you need to speak up before you sit in the chair. If you hate purple...then make sure a purple eyshadow is not used.
If you say that you do not like it...a makeup artist will tweek the look. No one wants a customer to leave unhappy. HTH
Yes, I agree that you have to say something before they put it on, but what about things that just don't end up looking good? It might just be that my problem is unique, but I have a hard time finding a perfect foundation match and often times even though they have done a "jaw test," once the foundation is on the whole face... the results just aren't there. I guess it's my own personal pet peeve... although I love makeup, makeovers are particularly frustrating for me.
They can't take that away from you!
fyi ... I posted something this morning on my blog that you might find interesting ...
Hope all is well in your world...
Richard
Hen sounds like it's too frustrating and too much of an annoyance for you to have to keep indulging in all of these unsatisfying make-overs - perhaps you should do it yourself (you obviously already know what you like - so why bother?) and allow those "untalented" artists to focus on customers who do appreciate the service, enjoy the process, and do understand the "unspoken" word of purchasing products.
