Blogdorf Bond Countdown: 3 days
Several months ago, Basenotes, had a contest to develop a new Bond fragrance.
I never heard from them so I think it is safe to assume that I did not win. My entry was a fragrance based on the Russian Tea Room. The notes were various Russian teas with orange, currant, caramel, almond, vanilla, and spices. I wanted something delicious like Chinatown but with a smoky tea base.
I thought the bottle could be based on this room. Can you imagine how stunning it could be?
In honor of Laurice's visit I thought I would pose a fun fragrance question.
Develop a fragrance for a city close to your heart and let us know in the comments.
Mine: I would choose Akron Ohio.
Akron has a special place in my heart. This is where I attended college and spent some of the best years of my life.
The notes would be tea, rose, rubber, leather with a drydown of amber and smoke. The bottle could look like a tire, goodyear blimp or have a picture of this guy on it.

Any guesses why this guy would be on the bottle?

Your tea fragrance sounds divine... I would have bought it!
Wow, I guess I would have to make one for the I sland I live off, off the coast of Florida. Anna Maria Island. It would have to be the marine scent to trump all marine scents. It would have to be sweet and salty with lots of eau de driftwood.. what ever that would smell like. This is a place where the manatees go swimming by and when you reach into the soft white sand you pull up a starfish the size of your hand! A very special scent it would be for sure. But in all fairness I recently found the scent that most reminds me of my magical place...Lolita Lempicka "L". So I will just keep buying bottles of that perfection!
P.S. I can't wait to smell and hopefully but the new Bond Coney Island, I hear it's delish and we ALL need delish!!!
San Diego: A light refreshing citrus (I love orange blossom so why not put that in there?), with a slight undertone of a spicy musk...like an ocean breeze. Light, breezy, sunny, earthy.
Since Laurice has done perfectly well for my favorite city in the USA, I'll venture over to Europe. I choose Taormina, Sicily. I swear this is what heaven looks like. My scent notes will be blood oranges, grapey iris, lilies, bouganvilla (I hope this flower has a scent, they drape over all the balconies in Taormina and grow freely up the pine trees) plus rose and violet because I love them together, oakmoss and patchouli to make it a chypre, incense and sandalwood for an intoxicating base.
A, I love the Russian Tea Room. When I lived in NYC back in the late 70's, early 80's, the RTR was my favorite restaurant! I'd order the chicken kiev, an Uncle Vanya or Bolshoi Ballet to drink, and strawberries romanoff for dessert. Oh how I loved that place. Your fragrance idea is perfect!
You must have been reading my mind, because I was formulating a new Bond fragrance last night. How about Morningside Heights and Washington Square?
Yes, I have two fragrances to honor NYC's two great universities, Columbia and NYU.
I am not sure what the notes would be exactly, but I'm thinking maybe a book/incense note a la a Messe de Minuit, with airy notes for the Morningside Heights fragrance and vetiver/iris notes for the NYU one.
Does that make sense?
Hugs!
Boston: A warm cherry blossom with a soft seabreeze middle note and a gentle musk dry-down.
Oh, that sounds lovely. Tea is such a lovely fragrance when it's done right.
I'd probably do something for Chicago- a white musk and a subtle hint of citrus or peach to sort of embody both a brightness and comfort.
(I'm more or less a lurker on this blog, but I did sign up for the Bond event at Saks. It sounds fun!)
Thanks Kayliana!
Anna Maria Island sounds like heaven. I can not imagine seeing a starfish up close and personal. I have only seen them in a tank at Sea World.
Coney Island is a lot of fun. I am fascinated by the salt note.
I finally sniffed "L" at my local Nordstorm. It took forever to get there. I thought it was a great gourmand scent.
Jennifer: That is a great scent description for San Diego. There is also something about the sun there. It is crisp, bright and shimmery. The sun just sparkles in San Diego.
Patti: That sounds lemming worthy.
That is what DG's Sicily should have smelled like.
I hope Laurice makes a chypre soon.
Violet: Thank you. I feel the scent needs something else in the base notes. I will try to tinker with it.
I had a great time thinking of Bond scents for the basenotes contest. I hope one day she does a fragrance for the MET. I think that would be the ideal setting for a chypre fragrance.
I love your ideas for scents! I have been drawn to iris scents lately.
Ash: I love Boston. That is one of the best trips I have ever taken. My friend Mary and I drove from Ohio to Boston in the fall. We stayed in Salem, Boston and stumbled across Sleepy Hollow.
BTW: Your scent sounds really good.
SMP: I love peach notes.
I have never got the peach note in Mitsouko. This might be because I only own the EDT. I hope to one day own the parfum version.
Your scent sounds like a winner. I know that I would buy it.
My appointment is around 11am and then I plan to loiter for a bit in Nars and Chanel. I hope I get to see you there!!! I will be the girl with the long black hair taking pictures and gushing over at lipglosses.
BTW: I guess there are no Devo fans reading this blog.
annietown- I was never that fond of peach notes until I tried Fresh's Sake. I don't commonly find it in things I like, but when I do I love it.
If you're still there around three, look for a really pale girl with red highlights and a bag with blue and green flowers on it. Our appointment's at half-past three, though we'll probably get there earlier to wander around the mall.
