Dear Annie,
As a lip gloss addict, I'm wondering how do you scrape
& dig the remaining lip gloss out of a tube? For
example, with softer plastic like Nars, I manage to
cut the tube open. How about with hard plastic tube
such as Chanel? The lip gloss tube/packaging is too
hard to cut open. I've been using the coffee stirrer
to access the hard to reach gloss. Do you have any
suggestions? Please let me know.
Thanks,
Julia
I also use the coffee stirrer trick.
I thought I would post the question here to see if anyone has any ideas or suggestions.
Thanks in advance!!!!

This might be sacriligeous (from a beauty standpoint) but is there a way to dilute the gloss so that you can get some of the dregs?

I don't have any suggestions about getting the lipgloss from the bottom of the tube but does anyone know of any glosses that don't make your lips feel like they are covered in glue. I like Merle Norman glosses because they feel so goooood on my lips.
On some lipgloss tubes, there's a plastic stopper thing right at the rim -- I think it's to remove excess gloss from the wand. If you can manage to pry it out, it should let you dig a couple millimeters more deeply.
Also, try dipping the (closed) tube in some boiling water for a couple of minutes. Depending on the gloss, it might just make it runny enough so that it'll drip towards the wand when you turn it upside down.
I love Estee Lauder's Pure Color glosses, it's the only gloss that I feel comfortable kissing with (in that I don't feel like I'm tarring myself to my boyfriend). Staying power could be better, but that's the price one pays, I guess. I am dying to try their HiGloss, I have heard such good things about it.
I always end up chucking my lipglosses before they get to that point. I never seem to use them up within a year, and after a year that goo seems really suspect. Wasteful, I know.
Oh, and Alisa, as for non-gluey lipglosses, Revlon Superlustrous and Iman glosses are great!
I would use a q-tip.
Do not use Q-tips! They don't work, the cotton fibers gets stuck in the gloss & all over your lips. Very disgusting!
Non-gluey lipglosses; MACs Lipgelée and Rosie Janes Lip Dew. Or try the "lipstick-glosses" (I don´t know if you have a word for it) but I´m thinking of Cliniques Buttershine for an example.
I use a metal spatula (you can easily find these at a art supply store, or at the local flea market/swap meet) that keeps things sanitary (clean with alcohol between swipes) and it leaves you less to throw away. Get the long, thin metal spatula, which is actually a dental spatula. Can't work without it.
