More thoughts on Carmindy....
The Carmindy collection is impressive and a great addition to drugstore counters. The quality rivals high end brands. One of those high end brands is La Mer.
I have been fairly loyal to La Mer's foundation for several years now.
The price has slowly climbed to $85.
This is a wince-worthy price tag.
Carmindy is a less expensive alternative.
Both foundations provide exceptional coverage and blend like a dream. Neither of these would work well for the sheer coverage lovers or most oily skin sufferers.
La Mer
*Price is currently $85
*It can be found at Saks Fifth Avenue
*Contains SPF 15
*Exceptional coverage skills
*Exceptional moisturizing skills. It is chock full of La Mer science.
*Layers well with most facial powders and blush.
*Packaging is an attractive glass pump. The pump is easy to control but does need maintenance after every use.
*Color range can be improved. I have found a great match with 02 Naturale. *The pigment in this foundation is first rate. Just one drop covers the entire face.
*La Mer does not have a concealer to go with the foundation. It is rumored to be released in 2009.
La Mer does produce an exceptional powder. It is the finest I have ever tried.
Carmindy
*It is priced at $12
*Distribution is strangely limited. It has only been found at various CVS stores and most Ultas.
*Titanium dioxide is an ingredient
*Exceptional coverage skills. It looks amazing on.
*Average moisturizing formula. I prefer La Mer's moisture skills.
*I do not think Carmindy layers well with powders. I have used La Mer powder and Caron with no success. It looks better alone.
*Packaging is similar to La Mer but the pump offers less control. It pumps out more foundation than La Mer. However it is easier to keep clean. The foundation does not collect at the nozzle.
*Color range is limited yet I have found a great match with Ecru Beige. It looks so light in the pump yet it works.
*Foundation does not settle into lines or pores. This feat happens without a primer product.
*Carmindy has matching powders and concealers.
Carmindy will be a welcome relief to my wallet yet I can never be without La Mer. The La Mer addiction is hard to kick.
It is just nice that I finally have a drugstore alternative.

I am in love with this foundation & concealer!
It is totally annoying that it's not in all CVSes. I have found it in two in my city---*not* in the "nice neighborhoods". Odd.
I still have been unable to find it locally so I am thankful for your reviews. I can't wait until it gets here.
I don't get it - my CVS has 2 Carmindy blushes in the clearance bin, but I never saw the line for sale at all. Where did those blushes come from?
Off to check Ulta.
You can buy the products at CVS. com and Ulta.com. They are great!
I bought mine at long's on the corner of ventura & laurel canyon. I use bb yellow powder over my tee zone. Yes. This foundation rules.
The foundation worked great for me when paired with the Carmindy "neutralizing" powder (looks scary yellow, goes on so smooth - amazing stuff). I'm also in love with the Quartz eye make-up - looks expensive, lasted for hours. Bought mine from Ulta.com, which has free shipping right now for $25 orders.
I am sorry to be the lone dissenting voice here but I was less than thrilled with this stuff. It doesn't work well on oily skin like mine and while titanium dioxide is an ingredient it would need to be in the active ingredients to be sunscreen. I know everyone raves but I think there are much better choices for oily skin.
I have only tried the liquid eyeliner (in teak brown) and while I love the color it made my eyes itch. I have NEVER had a reaction to any makeup (and I have tried a lot of lines drugstore and not). I tried it a couple of times and every time I applied it my eyes itched. So no more Carmindy for me
I'm still testing out the foundation, but so far, so good! I have mild eczema, pre-rosacea, and some mild KP, and in the last year I haven't been able to wear ANY foundation before finding this! The color match for very fair skin is also terrific. This isn't for more oily skins, IMO. It's a great price for what you get as well. I live in Cleveland, and I finally found it in an Ulta (no CVS within 20 minutes of me carries it).
Thanks to the recommendation on this blog, I was really happy with the foundation! I love the coverage and its blendability. The one downer is that it took me two tries to find the correct color - I hate the fact that there are no testers.
I was curious if anyone had thoughts on the neutralizing (scary yellow) powder - does it look less yellow on? Again, it's hard to tell without a tester. And also any thoughts on the concealer and the brightener would be much appreciated!
Oh and I found mine at a local Long's.
Just curious, Blogdorf, did you ever hear back from the company Sally Hansen?
I have to try this. Something snapped in me a while ago and I just cannot, CANNOT, abide by dealing with Sephora or the department stores for the $$$$ products any longer. I look at each new MAC collection (you know, the new ones that come out - what 4 weeks apart?) and think "HEH, you can't have my money, you nasty little manipulators..." etc.
So, less is more, or something, and I'll try this.
Annie - Have you tried the Carmindy foundation with the powder from her line, instead of the La Mer?
Can't wait to try this...love Carmindy's makeup style. She's very talented.
Good morning Annie ...
I came to you looking for a review of the new "Sex and the City" film ...
Did I miss it?
All good things your way,
R
I love Carmindy on WNTW. I like her makeup typically more than the makeup for the people on the show. Im very surprised that Carmidy decided to put her name on drugstore makeup. Because I was curious I picked up a bottle of her foundation. I found the coverage to be dry and heavy. My favorite foundations include Cle de Peau (on bad skin days and during winter or when I want a flawless look) and La Mer Fluid Tint (the other 80 percent of the time). I wonder if Carmindy actually uses her own mu? I seriously doubt it.
the concealer owns. The Light looked like it might have been too dark in the little pan, but it's perfect!!!!
Try the lipsticks on this line. You won't be dissapointed. Amazing Quality!
I've only tried one of the lipsticks but was extremely disappointed with it. The color, texture, and most of all the smell - ick! Don't think I'll buy any more of it.
Thanks for the in-depth comparison. Your review would have steered me to Carmindy's line over La Mer if I needed a new product. Thanks.
Scarlett: I know!
I do not get the availability issues at all.
Richard: I have not seen it yet. I am not feeling any love stories right now. I think I am going to to pass on it...even though I am a fan of the series.
Last Friday I was able to attend an appearance at the Ulta store in West Hollywood. Carmindy put on a demo makeover on a model, discussed the makeup line and then did free consultations for everyone and answered questions, even did quick makeup applications on those waiting. It was so cool! Here are some tidbits I picked up about this makeup that will answer some questions on this blog site. The line will start appearing in more and more stores and eventually will be everywhere. It's just taking some of the stores longer to get set up. She chose this market because she wants to be able to reach all women not just those who live close to large metro areas with higher end stores. She wanted a high quality makeup that's affordable and close at hand for everyone. By the way, om her recommendation I have tried the yellow powder which looks scary but is awesome. No, it does not look yellow on skin. Magic! Also, the yellow colored concealer (All Over Neutralizer) makes my ruddy red checks disappear. FOUNDATION FIRST! CONCEALERS SECOND! If you moisturize and/or use her face primer then the foundation goes on like a dream. My friend commented that the primer was sparkly and was afraid to try it at her age but Carmindy applied it and then did the foundation and then concealers and her skin looked awesome. And YES I can attest that she does wear her own makeup. After many years of experience she has designed what she thinks works best for herself as well as other women. She also uses it on the newer WNTW shows. Watch the newer shows and you will see it on her counter. If you are getting dry and heavy coverage it may be because you are using too much. I did at first and found that the tinest dab is enough. I apply by dotting around with my fingers and blend with a sponge. Since it goes a long way this is another great money saver! To the comments about the lipsticks smelling??? I have 2 of the lipsticks, one of lip gloss brushes and the lip balm color sticks. The lip balm sticks are the only ones that have a fragrance that is like grapefruit. Other than that product and the entire make up line is fragrance free. So I am not getting that comment. Oh well, we are all different that's for sure. If you can get to one of these appearances around the country don't miss it. She will show you a lot of tricks just for your situation and answer any questions. I don't know about the chemical compounds and stuff for sun block but I will try to get an answer to that because I think it's important. Will ask on her website. Oh, and let me tell you that she is friendly and easy going. Like being with a friend. How refreshing!
Anon: That is so good to know. I was wondering why it had not been fully launched in all CVS stores. The line is fabulous and high quality, and will do well once it is found everywhere.
As for working with powder...I have found sucess. I dab the powder on with a big fat brush. I stiffle it instead of brushing in a circle motion. It made all the difference in the world.
Ulta had Carmindy's like buy 1 get one 50% off a couple of weeks ago so I took the opportunity to try some lip glosses. LOVE them. They feel great on, not sticky, but they last. Smell good too.
I worked with Carmindy on a shoot back in January before her line was launched and she brought along some samples for me, which I loved. She didn't have my color foundation with her, but now I'm inspired to try it after all the good reviews. I love the prices and I LOVE that they're made with natural ingredients.
I just purchased her entire cosmetic line about a week ago and I'm totally in love with it. If its not working right it's because you are nor using it right. The foundation primer is a must! I have oily skin as well and it works great for me. The primer helps mattify my skin and the foundation goes on like a dream after. You only need one pump of each. The concealers provide good coverage and the eye brightner really reflects light to the eyes. The translucent powder works good if you layer the products correctly, use the puff if comes with in small amounts dabbing it into the skin don't cake it on. Like I said I have oily skin so dont keep touching up with powder buy some oil absorbing papers it keeps your makeup looking fresh all day not cakey. The eyeshadows are easy to use and stay put all day with use of the primer.
The blushes are great and look so natural. I love the lip glosses too because they don't feel sticky or goopy and seem to stay on longer than any other gloss I've used. The only complaint I do have is the eyeliner does make my eyes itch but if you can stand it they are easy to put on and look pretty.Needless to say I think the products are fabulous!
Girls don't be afraid to try the products cuz if you buy them at cvs and hate them you can take the product back to the store for a full refund with a receipt without a receipt they give you a in store credit. So experiment away with the makeup!
I just bought the primer, foundation, and concealer today, and I definitely love them! At least for me they do everything they're supposed to. Also, y'all should check out the products' website at www.sallyhansennaturalbeauty.com and it shows how all the products work together. There are videos of Carmindy using all the products to create different looks. (Fall/Winter, Spring/Summer, 5 Minute Face, Eyes, etc.) They're really helpful!
Thank you for these posts! I have watched wntw since the very fist episode, and have always loved Carmindy's style! I have been using the classified cosmetics spray foundation and I love it, I am hoping that her foundations will provide the same results. I am glad to know that I'm not the only one who is having a hard time finding it in stores. I went to one and they had the display, but they were all out of every foundation! I have been to 4 other stores closer to my house and none of the managers had even heard of it. So I think I'm going to order online from cvs, does anyone know if you can return something that you got online like you can at the stores?
I am in love with this foundation & concealer!
