Balmain Spring RTW 2009
For a girl looking for an instant backstage pass, this is the wardrobe that will send her sailing past the heaviest security on sight.(style.com)
You know that you are old when you read the gushing on style.com for the Balmain show and all you can think of is Michael Jackson at the height of his sanity and how the jeans are only worthy of David Lee Roth. Is this truly the uniform for the modern day groupie? I know the military inspired jacket is something that could translate well at a My Chemical Romance show but the pants? Seriously? Someone lie to me and tell me the pants are not making a comeback.
I want to make a video dedication to my friends Mary Joyce Giannini and Jen Mascardine. Click below and enjoy!

Oh boy. I hand bleached-spotted a pair of my jeans in high school (circa 1992). Truly one of my more woeful fashion moments. The jacket, that isn't so bad though (I stress, NOT IN THAT COMBO), I saw it in a powder blue with silver? trim on another site and it struck me as very pretty and actually quite versatile. However, Lily Donaldson is not the best model to sell it on - it looks dreadful on those outsized jutting shoulders of hers. The blue version looked much nicer on the model I saw.
Yes, I did the same thing to my jeans in high school. My mother thought they were horrid and she was afraid people would think we were poor! But I loved them, especially after the knees ripped out!
OMG I had the same thought and was going to post on the clothes. . No acid washed ripped denim Please. Never liked it the first time around. yikes.
I can get behind the military jacket to some degree though.
I always look forward to the Balmain show but not too sure about this one.
Oh goodness no. Say it ain't so! Those bleach stained jeans will never go away will they? Has fashion not suffered enough from the over sized shoulder pads (al la the movie Working Girl) to the awful pegged acid washed jeans and high top Reebock shoes (al la Back To The Future)? When is enough enough? I beg. Please Fashion Gurus. Please look at your history books. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
thanks for the video--love it! brings back great memories.
Were they going for a puffy-clouds-in-the-clear-blue-skies look with those jeans? ick.
WHAT!!!!!! ARE YOUPEOPLE LIKE 40 AND OVER THE HILL OR SOMETHING??? I MUST ADMIT, I'LL BE HAPPY WHEN THE HIPSTER TREND HAS DIED OFF AND GONE TO HELL.
BUT THIS LOOK IS AMAZING! I LOVE THE BALMAIN! ACID WASHED JEANS HAVE LOOKED TIRED AND TERRIBLE IN THE PAST, ESPECIALLY SUCH CRAP AS AMERICAN APAREL...BUT THESE JEANS BY BALMAIN I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF. I WANT TO BLEACH OUT BY BEST KSUBI SKINNY JEANS AND SHRED THEM TO PERFECTION, JUST TO SEPERATE MYSELF FROM THE CLOSE MINDED FOOLS WHO COULD WRITE SUCH NONSENSE. THOUGH I'M SURE THE LOOK DOESN'T AGREE WITH YOU BECAUSE DEEP DOWN YOU KNOW YOU COULD NEVER GET AWAY WITH IT. SO RETIRE TO WEARING MARC JACOBS AND LEAVE LILY DONALDSON ALONE! AND P.S.DUMB... DUMB THOSE ARE SHOULDER PADS!!!
