He Never Said He Had a Girlfriend

Whitney Port had a fashion show during NYC Fashion week. It was for her new clothing line called Whitney Eve.
The makeup duties was performed by Tina Turnbow for NYX Professional makeup.

The beauty look was inspired by Alice in Wonderland. There were coral lips and flushed cheeks. It looked appropriate and lovely for spring.

The beauty rundown:

Doll Play: Big lashes are the look for Spring. Tina used Nyx Professional Makeup’s Doll Eye Mascara in Volume to create, big open eyes. For extra definition, the model’s eyes were lined with Nyx Professional Makeup’s Felt Tip Eyeliner in Black, with a sexy cat-eye swoop.

Candy-Colored Eyes: For eyes that popped on the runway, Tina created a colorful, fresh look using Nyx Professional Makeup’s Single Eyeshadows in three steps:
1) Eyelid – Sweep the White Pearl shadow up to the crease to make eyes pop
2) Crease – Use the Golden shade to highlight and add shimmer
3) Contour – Add definition above the crease to the brow bone with shadow in Burgundy Pearl

Get Cheeky: For a youthful, flushed pink cheek, Tina mixed Nyx Professional Makeup’s Rouge Cream Blush in Glow and Hot Pink to apples and contours of the cheek.

Bright Lips: To set off the playful look, Tina selected Nyx Professional Makeup’s Black Label Lipstick in Volcano – a bright, sunny coral shade.

NYX can be found at http://www.nyxcosmetics.com/
and Ulta stores.

Guerlain's Spring Collection 2009: Paradis Exotique

Oh, I've been to Niece and the Isle of Greece while I've sipped champagne on a yacht
I've moved like Harlow in Monte Carlo and showed 'em what I've got
I've been undressed by kings and I've seen some things that a woman ain't supposed to see
I've been to paradise, but I've never been to me

(lyrics to I've Never Been to Me)

The spring palette compact designed by Hervé Van der Straeten is too pretty to use. The palette is called 404 Paradis Exotique and contains 4 shades. Each shadow is etched with a bird of paradise. The green shade reminds me of my beloved and long discontinued MAC's Metamorph. It retails for $58 and is limited edition.

The stand outs in this spring collection are the KissKiss glosses. The shimmer power is very similiar to YSL's Golden Glosses. The pigment is sheer and the glitter is very fine. The green shade is the jewel. It is the one that incited oohs and ahhs from the gang.

804 Orange Interdite (sheer peach with gold and orange glitter)
805 Cerise Tentation (sheer coral with pink glitter)
806 Pomme du Desir (green shade)

These 3 Spring shades are limited edition and retail for $29.

The new single shadows (Ombre Eclat Mono) are very rich yet light in pigment power and texture. They are easily blendable, slightly luminous and act as a great wash for the eye.
140 L’Instant Precieux (Pearly)
141 L’Instant Charnel (Velvety)
142 L’Instant Fauve (Sparkly)
143 L’Instant Cuir (Sparkly)
160 L’Instant Coquin (Velvety)
161 L’Instant Fleuri (Pearly)
180 L’Instant Fume (Pearly)
181 L’Instant Emeraude (Sparkly)
182 L’Instant Nuit (Sparkly)
(for the taupe lovers)
190 L’Instant Indigo (Sparkly)

This collection is currently at Guerlain counters at your local Saks store. Our local Dillards did not have it in stock yet. It is also available at Sephora.com

Bobbi Brown's Brights Palette: A Tiny Package

Dr Evil: Mini Me, if I ever lost you I don't know what I would do. [pauses]
I'd probably move on, get another clone but there would be a 15 minute period there where I would just be inconsolable
(Quote from Austin Powders The Spy That Shagged Me)

I was dazzled by the first images of the new Bobbi Brown palette that appeared on many beauty blogs. What was not to love about a palette filled with bright shades instead of shimmery nudes or rich chocolates?
I appreciated the new direction. It was fun and light hearted.

So imagine my surprise when I discovered that the shadows were actually the size of a standard non-nut filled M&M candy. I should have read the fine print. This whole "Mini Me" size did not compute. Luckily, I have a patient and sane Bobbi Brown SA who rationally pointed out that no one really needs normal sized bright turquoise eyeshadow. This palette was created for the neutral shadow kind of girl who wants to occasionally have fun with some bright shades. The shades are a hodge podge of warm yellows to cool toned blues. The pigment power is light and safe. It creates a very subtle wash over the lid.

In the above photographs I have included an Altoid so you can get a better idea of the size.

The palette was inspired by the "fun kit" that Ms Brown uses for fashion week. The colors are new and exclusive to this limited edition palette. You know the drill of course. The price is $70 and is currently available at your local Bobbi Brown counter or www.bobbibrown.com

Here is the color listing: Electric Pink, Gun Drop, Bubblegum, Pink, Flamingo, watermelon., Sherbet,Samba, Coral, Peach, Honey Bell, Nugget, Buttercup, Maize, Day Glow, Macha Green, Shamrock, Jade, Eucalyptus, Sea Foam, Pacific, Breeze, Blue Denim, Cloud Blue, Ocean, Royal Blue Electric Blue, Cornflower,Wisteria, Bluebell, Periwinkle, Blue Iris, Ultra Violet, Orchid and Mulberry.

Akikio Ogawa Spring 2009

"I imagined someone who was a ballerina in London in the 80's. The look has a romantic feeling but slightly off as if she fell in a bed of roses and was stained by the petals. Think a midsummer night's dream." (Kabuki)

Eyes: Select Cover-Up Concealer – applied to lids and up toward brows to even skin tone oon M·A·C Pro Longlash in Barelash – was applied to lashes and brows to pale out the
M·A·C Pro Set Powder in Porcelain – dusted under the eyes
Technakohl Liner in Smoothblue – drawn under and away from the bottom lash line
M·A·C Pro Eye Shadow in Atlantic Blue – blended over the liner and diffused away from the eye
Face: Select Cover-Up in NC15 – applied to skin to pale out the face
Powder Blush in Pink Swoon – applied along cheek bones
Lips: M·A·C Pro Lip Erase – applied to lips to block natural colour
Powder Blush in Pink Swoon – blended over M·A·C PRO Lip Erase for a rose petal stain

Later that evening, Jordan and Bjorn headed to Akiko Ogawa, who showed separates -- including hand-dyed gradient leather jackets and pants. The room was heavily scented with fragrant roses, and the collection focused on soft hues that ranged from persimmon to white. While not for everyone, some of the looks liberally borrowed from the '80s aesthetic. Sleeveless double-breasted jackets, anyone? Jordan loved the collection, but couldn't help but chuckle at the rosette eye patch one model fearlessly flaunted. (Jordan Dechambre-Childers and Bjorn Nasett, Special to OnMilwaukee.com)

Great video from style.com
My favorite description about the Marc Jacobs collection is from Mr Blanks.
"Lana Turner goes to Bali"

What do you think was the reference of the collection?
I will start.
I saw Eliza Doolittle from My Fair Lady.
I saw a heavy japanese influence.
I also could not shake The Waltons/Laura Ingalls vibe. This was a wierd and strong trend from several collections. It might be a subtle political commentary. I guess when the world is going to hell in a handbasket, people want a return to simple times.
They want plaid and aprons.

Gucci Spring RTW 2009: CoverGirl

The blue and turquoise smoky eye was created by Pat McGrath.

I love when artists give us a new interpetation to the smoky eye. This might not be daytime or work friendly but it is fun and quite stunning. This look is from CoverGirl's palettes and is currently available at your local drugstore. No waiting and lemming till spring or stalking Specktra for details.

Vera Wang RTW Spring 2009

Style.com reports that the influence for this collection was the artist, Niki de Saint Phalle. Vera Wang has delivered collections influenced by the works of Mark Rothko, Matisse and Kees Van Dongen. It is exciting to see what artist or movement will inspire her every season. It also makes me dig out my neglected art history text books. Niki de Saint Phalle was a French Vogue cover model along with a important artist in the Nouveau Réalisme movement. She is famous for her "Shooting Paintings". She would shoot a .22 caliber rifle at a "wooden base board on which containers of paint were laid, then covered with plaster". The bullets would hit the paint containers and the spillage would be the art. Niki de Saint Phalle most recognizable art is her large colorful public sculptures. Many are peppered throughout California.

The true star of the Vera Wang show was not the clothing but the jewelry. While the clothing was dainty and whispery, the jewelry was bold and colossal. I think this could be the true lemming monster moment of the season.

Balmain Spring RTW 2009

For a girl looking for an instant backstage pass, this is the wardrobe that will send her sailing past the heaviest security on sight.(style.com)

You know that you are old when you read the gushing on style.com for the Balmain show and all you can think of is Michael Jackson at the height of his sanity and how the jeans are only worthy of David Lee Roth. Is this truly the uniform for the modern day groupie? I know the military inspired jacket is something that could translate well at a My Chemical Romance show but the pants? Seriously? Someone lie to me and tell me the pants are not making a comeback.

I want to make a video dedication to my friends Mary Joyce Giannini and Jen Mascardine. Click below and enjoy!

Black lippies for fall and Metallic Violet lips for Spring

This lippie look is from the Zac Posen Spring RTW 2009 show. It was created by Charlotte Tilbury for MAC.
It took a village of products to achieve this specific lippie.

The products are as follows: Magenta lip pencil to fill in the lips as a base. Cyber lipstick applied over the lip pencil. Violetta MAC Pro lipstick patted onto the lips with fingers.

The nail polish for the show was created by Deborah Lippmann. It will be in production and one of the names being considered is "Who's Your Daddy?"
I think it looks gorgeous and lemming worthy.
